Deion was giving interviews back in January where he said there were a couple of teams he wouldn't allow his kid to play for.  He tried to shove the toothpaste back into the tube recently but the damage was already done.  Shedeur's personality was like his dad but his dad didn't play QB.  I thought he'd fall.  Not to the 5th round but I thought end of the 2nd was possible.

The NFL is a very tricky organization. I remember when every single team refused to draft a top tight end from Arkansas maybe because he may have had consensual relations with his underage niece when he was like 19 and she was 15. The guy never stood a chance but, like this case, I don't think the NFL tried to blackball him. Just everyone realized that there is only so much juice worth the squeeze.

 

I don't think those examples are analogous to the Sandera situation though in all fairness. I understand the point that you are making. Once you accept there are things that exempt you from the talent meritocracy where you draw the line becomes a subjective question of judgment. I suppose my point with Shedeur is I don't think the line was drawn in the right place and I don't think all of that was his fault.

Geez … all we ever did was call the local bowling alley and ask if they had fifteen pound balls, and if so, how can they walk? 😂

I thought day 2 was definitely possible. I didn't have him in my final first round mock. Had someone taken him in the third round, I'd shrug. But going round 5? I think there were things other than how good a football player and leader is this kid at play. That is where I have some sympathy with him and I thought in the context of that.... he handled himself pretty well over the weekend.

In that final mock draft we did I traded up for him in the 1st as the Steelers.  LOL.  To be fair, I didn't get to interview him.

But if it’s Shadeur, there’s an official NFL investigation because how dare they!  Is the NFL gonna investigate the other prank calls to draftees like they are Sanders?  This is part of the reason he lasted until the 5th round.  Nobody wants to deal with this for a guy who ain’t an elite talent.

I don’t think it’s near as tricky as some are making it to be

 

as a top qb prospect you are maybe 50-50 odds? And Shedeur on the field is a solid step back from that.

 

so now that you walk him back to a real long shot- and you add the baggage that he’s actually a guy that could get you a lot of negative attention publicly if you take the chance….

a 21 year old kid is legally a man in the eyes of the law. He basically stole the unprotected info . I'm not sure a prank call is worth a legal charge  but if Mr Sanders wanted to sue he would WIN in court for Intentional infliction of emotional distress. Right?

It’s a dumb prank from a really dumb generation who trash movie theaters etc. however, if the Sanders crew wasn’t documenting every second of every day no one would even know it happened and the embarrassment of situation could have stayed private. All around everyone is stupid here including the coach who did not secure his device. Just all around, old fashioned stupidity.

Pretty poor decision to do that. At least it was against a rich kid who has had everything handed to him his entire life. Still not nice, but it would be worse if it was a normal kid just hoping to get drafted.

Sometimes it is not all about blame and fault.  To me, Sanders' fall made complete sense just due a few basic realities that define Sanders as a prospect.  It is a legit question weather or not he has the maturity or the "chops" to take on the type of leadership role that will earn the respect of a locker room full of adults that have moved heaven and earth to make their own names.  He's never had to demonstrate that trait in his career to date.  Sanders, at the end of the day, is just a kid that has never been in a situation where he was not the boss's kid.  That is part of his resume that teams will include in their evaluation of him.  As it should be.  

 

He's going to be tested and face a ton of scrutiny from teammates in the NFL.  How he will handle that scrutiny is a question, and to some teams, it a question that they chose not to ignore.  Can he lead a team without that security blanket, without his world famous dad standing behind him with that "don't mess with my son" aura hanging over the room and even inside the huddle?  It is a significant unknown.  

 

Yes, the Deion shadow is a real thing.  It is something that any team must consider.  I would guess that most teams probably just scratched him from their boards, as they do with many prospects when then decide that whatever headache they bring just isn't worth it.  Is that Shadeur's fault?  Not even relevant.  It is just the reality that defines him as a decision for teams to make.  I can understand why many teams just chose out of that drama.
