Everybody keeps talking about last years class because it was perceived as a great class but as it pertains to difference makers even in that strong class no one from the 3rd round on made really any type of contribution in their rookie year . Maybe future  years will be different for that class but people acting as if if KeAndre Smith or others were going to come in and get reps in their rookie year as a difference making vertical threat are mistaken

Fair.

Guys like Troy Franklin, Jordan Whittington, and Devaughn Vele at least showed flashes of being legitimate contributors in year two and beyond, though.

And of course the overall hit rate of late round receivers is generally quite low, but there are guys like Stefon Diggs, Antonio Brown, Puka Nacua who were drafted in later rounds. There doesn't appear to be one of THOSE types from the 2024 draft, but on the other hand, you never even get a CRACK at it unless you take a swing. I think I just wanted to see them take some more swings.

Yep it’s that old “you miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” thing. They don’t even take shots unless you count Márquez Stevenson

Man, if Jalen Royals, drafted by KC one pick after the Bills passed on him, turns into a star a year after the Bills passed on Worthy, we're never going to hear the end of it, especially if Coleman and Walker don't pan out.

Totally get it but at the same time the Bucs defense is absolute garbage and the only reason they win that division every year is because the other teams are awful. It’s not an indication how good the Bucs are

You know how every is praying "maybe Coleman takes another step next year"

We could have had two or 3 bites at that apple.

But your theory does not explain why they did so much work on receivers leading up to the draft.

WR value, in their eyes, didn't line up with how the board fell. That much is clear.

Where fans are upset about this is in how the Bills set up their board in the first place, which always seems to undervalue WR (and WR speed) compared to other positions.

Gunner - thanks for all that you and a few others who dive into so much game tape do.  It’s great fun to discuss the draft each year, especially with such knowledgeable posters as you.

Looking forward to training camp next!

Then adapt and make a change.  I think they get stuck on players, and when they aren't there, they don't know what to do.

I don't believe that for a second.

They're a cerebral group. And if you really want someone, you've decided he's your #1, one of the first things you do after that is game out what you do if he's gone. It just doesn't make sense that they haven't done that, well before the draft. They've got a board, they'd just follow it.

We heard this about CB a year or two ago, that the reason they picked Elam was that McDuffie was gone and they "panicked." It's ridiculous. I am quite willing to believe that they wanted McDuffie and were deeply disappointed. But that they panicked is ridiculous. They'd put together their board. They grabbed the next guy on it. It was a mistake and he didn't work out, that's clear, but it wasn't panic that caused the problem.

Making wrong decisions? Yeah, everybody does, and they certainly have. This could be one, as could any decision. But just not deciding in advance what they'd do if their guy is gone? Nah. Not gonna happen.

And just like that.... it's over for another year. I get some free time back, which will be nice. No more treadmill runs while also trying to watch draft prospects, no more "I'll just watch a on more guy" at 11pm and the next time you look it's 2.30am, no more Sunday morning coffee while writing up sub package linebacker evaluations. How will I cope? :D

Thanks for all the engagement on the board, as ever, so until next year, Gunner OUT!

Enjoy the free time, Gunner.

Fabulous stuff.

Where we are now, in the next year or two, Beane is going to have to trade away some valuable draft capital to move way up for a top dog DE or a WR.   Plenty of solid floor guys where we draft, but no super studs.   The way the roster is set the time should be now.

I wasn't crazy about this draft.   Coaches Sean and Babich have very little room to make excuses.

We shall see, Go Bills.
