The point is, trying to fill a need doesn’t automatically mean they thought the available options were upgrades or that they would add meaningful value in that role.

That’s fair. What I’m saying is that they had 11 or 12 guys, that visited, ran sub 4.4, and all went on day 3. They could have found a way to get ONE of those guys that they liked best. They had 7 picks and that was the biggest remaining need when the day started yesterday (or at worst 2nd biggest). They self identified the importance of it. My frustration is that there were lots of chances to make it happen. If there was like a guy or 2 and they had 3 picks, for example, it would be much more understandable. That wasn’t the case here. Lots of guys filled that role, they expressed an interest in lots of those guys and had lots of ammo. It didn’t and still doesn’t make sense. Adding a deep threat was a much bigger need than competition for Cam Lewis, J’Marcus Ingram and Zach Davidson in my humble opinion.

Love Hamler but he didn’t seize his opportunity last year what makes you think this is the year?

 

Samuel is and always will be a gadget player NOT a deep threat. He never has been and never will be

 

Shakir is one of the best slot WRs in the league but not a deep threat, it’s not his game 

 

Virgil and Prather?… I guess here’s hoping one of them or one of the UDFAs is the guy but would’ve been nice to grab another more proven one in the draft like Kyle Williams.

Yes, a handful of people think he is 1 of 1.  I think most of us that aren’t bashing what happened yesterday believe he is a good/very good GM.  Certainly not 1 of 1.  But exaggerate to try and prove a point based on a few select fans that feel that way.

 
I didn’t like what they did yesterday.  But just because I didn’t like it doesn’t mean anything.  I don’t pretend to have a crystal ball. I think the last pick that I openly complained about was Terrell Bernard.  Beane has had success on day 3 and I’m not going to act as if I know more than him.  Sure, he may have screwed up, but I think he’s done enough to give him the benefit of the doubt. 
 

our defense was abysmal last season.  Our DL is consistently abysmal in the playoff losses.  He addressed it aggressivly

The perception around the league and media is that Beane is a very good GM. The Jets fans were lamenting the fact that he leapfrogged them a couple of times and took DTs because that was a big area of need for them. 

 

We as fans of the Bills look at everything in more detail and make a lot more of his failures which Im sure is the same for other fans around the league, even fans of teams we consider really well run. Apparently even the chiefs fans were unhappy with their draft. You'd think they'd know to trust their regime by now considering they make the Super Bowl every year.

 

I think Beane is great in general but I would like him to hit more home runs with his first rounders. that's been a real weakness of his which has been redeemed in large part by Josh Allen who is arguably the best pick in Bills history. His mid to late round picks have had a bunch of diamonds though

This is incredible. You honestly think front office folks spend time figuring out how to “manipulate the fan base” They’re trying to win a Super Bowl, not make moves that TwoBillsDrive and Reddit approve of.

I guess that my answer would be someone thought they were good enough. All of them got drafted between rounds 3 & 5. I counted 13 of the “speed guys” that went in those rounds and 4 or 5 other WRs that weren’t really field stretchers. That was the sweet spot and the Bills had lots of assets in there to secure one. I don’t know how the Bills had them ranked. I am sure that there were certainly some that they liked more than others.

I’m sure every draft has twists and turns like that. Being in the war room for a draft might be the coolest ”sporting event” I can think of attending. They always say all the right things at the podium, but you know there’s got to be somethings that went wrong at the last minute. 

 

Not sure who they liked of the group but I’m sure that they missed a few times. I’m assuming that they got sniped on Horton as he was the last one left.

They have a communications/PR department because it’s a requirement of the NFL to hold press conferences. The front office, coaches and players are just there so they don’t get fined… brother I’ve been in these rooms… I know exactly what goes on.

And long term there are some things you can do with Hairston inside if you want to in nickel and dime stuff with Strong outside. I really like this pick adding you and depth to that room. Way too good to pass up in round 6.
