Maine-iac Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Sounds like we have a whole bunch of box/shell coverage safeties and this is finally the guy who can play coverage and possibly safety. I'm getting overly optimistic but I like the pick. We need guys who can stop passes from being thrown. Quote
KOKBILLS Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago (edited) Well now... I made the argument a few days ago that there were plenty of roster positions available on this roster, especially on Defense. It's not that we don't have decent players, but we also have a lot of guys who can be upgraded through the Draft. Hancock will be 22 in August... He's a 9.82 RAS and played mostly as the slot CB for the National Champs last year. Hancock's calling card is versatility for sure. Zone coverage should not be an issue... IMHO this pick is a direct answer to the trouble the Bills ran into last year behind Taron, and whenever they had to bring Cam Lewis in too much. Cam has been a great story and come a long way, but he's limited. Lewis is 5-9-183 with 4.5 speed. And that really showed up at times last year. I give him all the credit in the world for what he has done to maximize his skill set, but it's pretty obvious to me with this pick the Bills know they can upgrade. I think coming from the program he comes from, with his experience in zone, Hancock will provide needed depth and probably core ST's play. But just like I said after the Sanders pick for DeWayne Carter, I can't see how this pick is good news for Cam Lewis. Edited 16 hours ago by KOKBILLS 9 1 1 Quote

BuffaloBillsGospel2014 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago I'm not going to act like I know anything about this guy but from what I'm reading is that he'll most likely play at safety but the writeup on NFL.com isn't very inspiring. Good size and length but average coverage instincts. I always take these with a grain of salt since all these kids have some sort of warts to them and he's a 5th rounder so I get it. https://www.nfl.com/prospects/jordan-hancock/32004841-4e07-2674-a62a-bb5417cce048 Quote

This is an interesting pick to me and as someone said earlier Cam may be in trouble. Even if he is only a backup, versatile, and a special teams guy with his athletic ability this is what you look for later in the draft. 3 Quote
JoeF Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago From Dane Brugler - The Athletic A two-year starter at Ohio State, Hancock played nickel cornerback in former defensive coordinator Jim Knowles’ scheme (variations of Cover 1, Cover 3 and Cover 4 quarters). He also filled in at free safety when Lathan Ransom was banged up, and the coaches considered him an interchangeable defender across the secondary. Hancock plays with the size, strength and attitude of an NFL nickel and turned himself from a so-so tackler to an above-average run defender. In coverage, he falls behind too often from press and sees the field better from depth. Overall, Hancock is a quick and physical defender with versatile experience, although his average speed and below-average balance when turning and phasing routes will be an issue against NFL slots. His best pro position might be as a safety who can provide depth at different spots in the secondary. 1 2 Quote
AlCowlingsTaxiService Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago I’m optimistic that a late round defensive back from a football factory and national champion can make an impact on the roster. 👍 1 Quote
Miyagi-Do Karate Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago If this guy is Taron’s backup, I love it. The defense collapses with Taron out. I have been clamoring for some serious insurance for him. 6 Quote

I don't take the writeups as gospel (no pun intended) but these guys do this for a living and watch more tape then I'd ever care to see so I don't just gloss over it either. I watched a few snippets of him in coverage and so far he does have some slight issues there. 1 Quote

Mat68 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Athlete for nickel and safety. I like it. Imo biggest needs were dline and athleticism in the secondary. Both are filled and then some. Quote
