Turk71 Posted April 26 Posted April 26 Did they really need to move up again? Or is that just something Beane likes to do? Top heavy blob who stands up tall to get pushed around better. Lacks lower body strength to play with better leverage at point of attack. Every single year they are rebuilding the d line while the NFL MVP once again has a below average wr group to throw to. A lot of people saying this wasn't the year for wrs, would it have even mattered if this was a great year for wrs? The best year for wrs the Bills took a big slow can't get open guy at the end of the first round....I guess that means they're good for a few more years. Once again we can talk about how great the d line is gonna be...until we find out they're not and then draft some more next year. This is groundhog day all over again...and once again the Bills wr corp is a bottom 3rd of the league group. Go Bills! 1 1 Quote

BigDingus Posted April 26 Posted April 26 I've been of the mindset that you can upgrade D talent everywhere, yet they'll still perform the same in the playoffs as long as McDermott is calling the shots. This draft is a good chance to prove me wrong. It'll also give McDermott & Beane a chance to redeem themselves by showing they can identify defensive stars in the early rounds if things pan out. Deone has unteachable size, but needs to trade about 50 lbs. of upper body fat for 30 lbs. of lower body muscle mass and related strength (not that you can really trade one for the other, but you get the point). The 450lb kid from Florida would be about two times that challenge. Edited April 26 by kitchen sink 1 Quote

This gamecocks HC talking about walker just before playing Kentucky. Our D-LINE may be the best we have had in years The Gamecocks are set to play one of the nation's best interior defensive lineman in Kentucky's Deone Walker. A player so good that South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer labeled Walker as a "Game Wrecker" in Tuesday's press conference. Walker is a junior and projected first round pick for the Wildcats' defense. He routinely blows up plays and changes offensive schemes with an ideal blend of size, power, and athleticism. Coach Beamer talked about Walker's rare blend of traits and how that makes him special. "There's a reason people say he's going to be a top ten pick in the NFL draft. He's so big. Most big guys are big and just big, this guy is big and twitchy and big and athletic. He's got the twitch and wiggle to defeat double teams, make himself small if that's possible and split double teams. He's good at pass rush there's no question about it, but where he really scares people and scares us is in the run game. He's got our respect," Coach Beamer describes the Wildcats' defensive leader. 2 Quote

Expand This Joe dude must be so wise. Nothing against him but I made the point earlier that none of these armchair analysts have access to these prospects the way pro teams do. Sure, they can tell a lot from the tape and the testing, but none of them are sitting there breaking down film with a position coach who might say, "We can fix that with coaching" nor have any of them sat down and been able to interview them and assess their personality, their intelligence, their passion for football, etc etc. They aren't able to sit there with the player and put a play up on the screen and ask, "Okay so walk us thru what happened here" but teams and pro scouting departments do. There are just too many extra variables these outside draft guys don't know to say "I think this guy is better at scouting than a guy who actually gets paid by a pro franchise" at least for me anyway. Again, Joe seems like a nice guy but his info is limited to game film. 1 Quote
