This is exactly where I’m at. If their answer to the WR room is banking on Coleman taking a step then it could backfire in epic fashion if he doesn’t. Remember…that’s EXACTLY what happened with Gabe Davis. He had the big playoff game against KC and they looked at him as the answer at WR2. Then the drops came and his lack of speed showed up. They didn’t have an answer because they completely bailed on picking a receiver in that draft. Hopefully they learned their lesson. I think it’s reckless to not continue to add another dynamic to the offense today.

Why are you so against giving Allen the best help you can find?  Serious question…

Palmer is the new outside guy with good speed. But we should drafter a burner as competition. Shavers can play that role some as well.

Dude this was literally off the top of my head. There are countless others that were drafted after the 3rd round that had great careers. Don’t be obtuse.

Let's keep it civil, no reason to use insulting adjectives

His strengths, from NFL Draft Buzz, seem to indicate he is not a "horrendous athlete" or "not a very good football player"

--Rare blend of mass and mobility for his size - shows shocking lateral quickness when working down the line and can change direction without losing power or balance

--Natural power to stack and shed single blocks in the run game, using his 6'7" frame and heavy hands to control offensive linemen before violently disengaging

--Creates instant interior push with his bull rush, showing the ability to walk back centers and guards while keeping his feet churning through contact

--Surprising short-area quickness allows him to shoot gaps and disrupt plays in the backfield before blockers can properly engage

--Strong upper body and active hands help him defeat blocks both as a run defender and pass rusher - has shown an effective swim move

--Takes away multiple gaps with his sheer size and length, forcing runners to bounce outside where his deceptive mobility allows him to make plays

--Shows flashes of dominant potential when fresh, with the raw power to simply overwhelm offensive linemen who don't match his physical traits

--Three-year starter in the SEC who has proven he can hold up against elite competition while facing constant double teams

And to be even handed, what they consider his weaknesses:

--Conditioning is a major concern - tends to wear down quickly and becomes much less effective in longer drives or when asked to chase plays

--Consistently plays with high pad level, negating his natural power and making him vulnerable against double teams and combo blocks

--Initial burst off the snap is inconsistent, sometimes appearing sluggish and allowing offensive linemen to establish position before he's fully engaged

--Hand placement in pass rush needs refinement - too often makes contact without a clear plan, leading to stalemates even against single blocks

--Motor runs hot and cold throughout games, showing concerning lapses in effort when fatigued or trailing offensive plays

Glad you posted that, so that I went to find out more about what others say.

The strengths listed really contradict the horrible athlete thing and how poor of a football player he is.

While the weak areas are much less significant, and are things the can be fixed with coaching and mentors..

He certainly seems like the kind of player that McBeane may think they can do very good things with..

I don’t care what some random scouting report says. I’m using my own eyes. There’s a reason, with those measurables, that he’s still on the board…

Update: I hope I’m wrong 🤣🤣

But if he could shed like 100 pounds ? What COuLD he be? Is a he a coach on the field? Locker room culture guy? Can he play ….nay….THRIVE on special teams !?!?!?

he seems like a nice kid. He played a ton and averaged 1 combined tackle per game while teams ran down the Gators throats. They asked him to lose weight and gave him a plan and help and he just kept gaining.

Wish the best for him but I thought he sucked

Yes, a fifth WR will really help the McBean defense that gives up an average 34.5 points to the Cheifs in the playoffs 🤣

If you're taking that logic though...spending big resources in FA and the draft on D hasn't helped that either

Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cannot believe this!!  Deon Walker, the missing link on the d-line!!

Soo happy.

No more run around at D tackle, with likely two starting caliber players.

And Beane doing all I was hoping for, using their picks to get quality, not quantity. And all defense.

I said yesterday before the draft that the Bills needed to break their draft process, and instead use their many picks to get fewer better players, and to focus almost exclusively on defense.

I have never witnessed a draft in my many years of being a Bills fanatic going almost exactly as I wanted.

Now, another cornerback too, please!

Thank you Brandon!!!  And  especially to eee1776 for pointing out that Walker was still available, when I had thought he was not.

The most important remaining need is a field stretching WR. There isn’t a close 2nd. Giving Josh Allen someone that can stretch the field vertically not just adds big plays, it opens up the underneath for Kincaid and Shakir. It gets safeties away from the LOS to help the running game. I think that the stat was the Bills saw the most (or at least top 5 most) loaded boxes in the NFL last year. That’s impossible with Josh Allen as your QB. That’s malpractice by the organization. Palmer should help some but it’s the biggest need by 40 miles.

I think we had a lot of loaded boxes because we ran the most 6 offensive linemen formations.

I agree, Beans track record on drafting DL and also WR is not the best

 Me too!!

I am thinking, and I think you would agree-?, that they likely did dramatically more research, which is probably a monstrous understatement, then you, or I, possibly did on Walker.

Beane is clearly using Two Bills Drive to get his ideas this year, is almost assuredly reading this post right now, for his next step..

So, once again, please get another cornerback now, Brandon!!

(Though I think it is more likely another position, wideout, linebacker, or safety-?  I hope I am wrong though, as one more corner will literally complete the process I was hoping for.  Yup, getting greedy now. )

I just want one more DT1 gap player. I would be very happy for Deon Walker from Kentucky if he is still available.

Brandon better call and thank you.

Fair

It still is impossible to see the 3 least 2 deep with Josh Allen as your QB. That is such an indictment on the WR talent. There are still plenty of field stretchers left that we met with. I’m sure if they have their eye on one, they’ll go get them.

I dont know about that....Benford, Hairston, White, Jackson, Cam Lewis, Taron, Ingram....sur e you could bump Ingram off the roster but WR is a much bigger need.

But after the three starters none have proven, lately, that they can play well in the NFL.  And White, and likely Jackson?, are also too expensive.

Young, fast and athletic now, with potential-- and let McDermott and his staff work their magic.

Don't rain on my parade!  I want the perfect defensive draft, to redo the defense, and it soo close to that... Just needt one more cornerback, and using whatever it takes to get the best one available, even if it means no more picks.

Then, you can have what's left! Or, I will give you some picks in next year's draft.

Why do we “hope” that Keon improves but replace the guys on defense that we don’t think are good enough? The goal should be to turbocharge Josh not to rely on him elevating scrubs.

I oversee a sales team that has 27 sales people. 37% of our book of business is generated by the top 3 people. Is it better for me to give them everything that they need to go further or to spend time/resources worrying about numbers 25-27? That’s the WR argument. Who cares if your 5th corner or 5th DT sucks? I don’t care if my 25th best sales person isn’t good. I’ll never invest in them in place of those top 3 people that make wins happen.

I mean that I expect Keon to take a jump in his 2nd year. I think he is talented and will be a producer. I don’t feel like he’s a scrub.

Don’t get me wrong I love weapons and I want to set Josh up to kill.

But the defense is what is keeping us from a SB imo.

I’m thinking the offense will continue to be top 5 again this season and I’m ok with putting resources into the D.

Another cornerback!! Now, we have two otuside starters, and depth possibly too.

You are a brilliant man, but you do owe me now.

The perfect draft, most important draft maybe in the history of the Bills.

The final step..

Beane pretty much serving McDermott's head on a platter. Either get it done or you are out. He's given virtually an entire draft to the defense.

Come on! That is an ultra negative take on what is likely a seminal, and immensely satisfying day, in McDermott's career. And after two of the best days in the Bills' history, if you think defense is vital to winning it all. Likely right up there with getting the Bills' head coaching job and getting Josh Allen.

He is like a  poor kid on Christmas morning who then walks into the living room and somehow gets exactly what he wants--enough talent to transform the defense in one fell swoop. And, with the other additions in the off season, and in last year's draft, the most talent he has likely ever had.

Best draft in my lifetime.

Get on board, as this is huge. Or, you will be trying to catch the boat long after it has sailed.

Based on this take, what will be your reaction if the defense gets smoked by KC in the postseason again?

I’m not saying they will. I desperately hope they slaughter the Chiefs and make Mahomes miss facing the Buccaneers and the Eagles in the Super Bowl.

But when we are saying this is “likely the  most talent he has ever had,” do you feel like that means the pressure is on? And a similar vein of performance as the past is a massive failure?

I was on board with rebuilding the D - especially the D line. I love this draft.

We have a MVP QB, a very good OL, two solid TEs, and an elite RB. Solid offense backups as well.

I'd bring back Cooper and tell McDermott it is SuperBowl win or you are out of a job.

What else can Beane do? He's tried, drafting, trading, signing expensive free agents, signing volume free agents, and now drafting again. Hell he is signing PED cheats in an attempt to finally fix the defense.

At some point it works or if it doesn't don't you have to realize the scheme and the coach just can't get it done???
