I do trust time: Time will tell. I'll have an opinion on this draft in 2 or 3 years. Cynical but fair. You never know until they hit the field, but the best news is that none of these 3 have to start unless they earn it. 1 Quote
Low Positive Posted Saturday at 04:49 AM Posted Saturday at 04:49 AM 2 minutes ago, GASabresIUFan said: Absolutely, but he did it with guys who can make an immediate impact this coming season and you can project as starters. In fact, I think Hairston and Jackson could win starting jobs this season. These picks you could see how Beane projects his lineup this season CB2 - White and Hairston - not sure who starts DT 1 - Oliver backed up by Sanders DT2 - Jones backed up by Carter Edge - Rousseau and Bosa backed up by Solomon DE - AJE and Jackson - I think Jackson’s speed could push AJE to the bench. The way we play DL, who starts doesn't matter. Sanders will get meaningful snaps. The defense is better than it was on February 1. 3 1 Quote
paulmm3 Posted Saturday at 05:43 AM Posted Saturday at 05:43 AM I enjoy the insight in Beane's press conferences every night but he needs to pull a Belichick and stfu a bit. He's spending 30 minutes telegraphing exactly how Buffalo sees these guys and plans to use them, so much so that I'd be able to telegraph a little bit if I were an opponent based on the details he's giving 1 1 Quote

Getting hit in College and getting hit in the NFL are different animals…those who respond to getting hit in the NFL are successful, unfortunately that is difficult to predict. 1 Quote
colin Posted Saturday at 01:50 PM Posted Saturday at 01:50 PM As a team we still have a big hole at outside wr, we really lack speed and speration ability. On d we really need Carter and Bishop to look way way better than they did in their rook seasons, on O we need Coleman and kinkaid to show a ton of improve. What is clear is how the FO wants to build their team. They want the most athletically dominant group near the ball, and they want the secondary to compliment it. Jackson, sanders, Hoyt, bosa, Oliver, and Groot are all plus athletes, the only one of them who is undersized in all honesty is Oliver. We don't have a 320# dancing bear in the gut (yet, I guess we could draft one today) but end to end the front is far from small. They are going for a team that can pressure and cover and winning third down (my gosh we need that so bad) and will continue to play the run with unstoppable force instead of immovable objects (I'll judge it as successful if we can be top level past d while mid pack on run d). On the other side, Dawkins and brown are monsters at OT, Cyrus is a true dancing bear, and rg and c are at or above replacement. Assuming kinkaid can get back to form, he and Knox round out the front with athletic traits, and we being in Anderson to be a strong heavy jumbo front a lot too. Our outside wr is just lacking, and our slot guys have depth and some real ability but are not dominant. The backfield is where we have our horsepower. Allen is a creature and the lifeblood of the team, and even if cook holds out we have backs who can run and catch and power through. Quote

If Beane had drafted Shedeur, for example, I would have yelled angrily at my TV screen: WTF! Still, as a Purdue alum, I once said Drew Brees would become a good pro QB. I got that right. Then again, I had previously said the same thing about Scott Campbell. We all suffer from bad guesses. The same GM who gave us Josh Allen also gave us Kaiir Elam. It's like asking the weatherman for a forecast months in advance. Meteorology and NFL Scouting are crappy predictive sciences. So, most of the time, I don't dabble. In my mind, any of Beane's picks could be an All Pro in a few years. Or dishwashers at the local greasy spoon. I'll find out when I find out. Quote

Despite comments on this board to the contrary, Beane has done a good job drafting overall. The Elam draft for example gave us Benford, Cook, Bernard and Shakir. The year prior he took Rousseau, Spencer Brown and Hamlin, even though he missed on Basham. Give me 3 good picks for every dud, I think we'll be ok. The math says one of these 3 probably won't work out as hoped, but there is a very good chance all contribute. Quote

Will be a very, very different D. Check it, and not done yet: Joey Bosa, Larry Ogunjobi, Tre White, Michael Hoecht, Dane Jackson, Darrick Forrest. Maxwell Hairston TJ Sanders Landon Jackson McDermott said changes needed to be made. Base 4-3 now? Quote

I'm honestly shocked that he didn't void at least one of their contracts, especially now that we are loading up on DL in the draft. 1 Quote

I'll grant you this: The draft is a game of probabilities. There are no certainties. A scout once said that no college players play at the NFL level. What you have to do as a scout is guess who'll step up and who won't. It may be an educated guess but it's still a guess. And Beane guesses right somewhat more often than other GMs. I think his track record shows that, so I'm perpetually hopeful. But I don't count anyone in the draft as a given. Quote
