many will disagree, but I would look to trade Epenesa + a pick for a 1T to replace DaQuan Jones.  Then the interior would be golden for years

Oliver  Sanders

______  Walker

maybe we get lucky and a solid 1T is cut between now and September

Ogunjobi will be a Bill for 12 games, if any.

Carter is a fringe player IMO

I don't think you're going to see anymore tweaking of the Defensive Line. They've addressed it and upgraded it plenty. While I agree with your assessment that Jones should have been replaced - it's clear that Beane doesn't agree.

Either way, Jones won't be taking as many reps this year. Sanders is versatile. On passing downs, I think you're going to see packages where Sanders is rushing from the 1T alongside Oliver. Then there will be downs where Walker comes in for Jones. Plays where Sanders comes in for Oliver. Hell, with Walker having a Jordan Phillips style - there may even be plays where he rushes from 3 with Jones or Sanders at 1T. Even Ogunjobi has started at Nose Tackle at points in his career

Beane talked about it at his Presser on Saturday. They don't view things as linearly as definitive 3 or definitive 1. They went out and got guys who are versatile. It's not the 90's where a giant tub of goo Nose Tackle was a requirement. It's a passing league now. You want guys with athleticism who can get to the backfield. Obviously, that's what Beane values more. As he said, "if I just wanted a big bodied 1T, I could find a guy in Free Agency. It's the guys who can provide Pass Rush that you want".

The Defensive Line is in really good shape, even with Hoecht and Ogunjobi on suspension. It's been upgraded quite a bit. We brought in 3 new Defensive End's and 3 new Defensive Tackles. All of our bigger signings outside of Palmer were DL. We spent Rounds 2-4 (all in the Top 10 of the Round) exclusively on DL. And in doing so we've built a much more talented on paper rotation along the entire Line.

I think we should be pretty happy with what we have and I wouldn't mess with it.

Big athletic guy.  Vs the Mahomes and Jackson you need to collapse the pocket.  Run the hoop they get pushed past and they are out of the pocket. Jackson slides right into the rotation.  Great value in rd 3.  Many thought he was an early second rder.

Dude is gonna be great.

Looks to still be growing into his body. Once he gains the right NFL strength and learns leverage for his body height and length, he will be a game wrecker.

Hoping he can step into the Smoot role this season, and then in years 2-3 develop into a monster DE. But he definitely adds more physicality to the defensive line which is much needed.

Eyebrows as well please

Yes this too. Honestly with us bills fans being crazy, I'd EXPECT nothing less. I won't worry about checking other areas for hair but assumptions will be made

+ He's not slow.  Very good size.  Relentless effort.  Has produced against elite college OT's

Watched him play a few times this past season. He was noticeable although I do think he's a little stiff. He reminds me of a stronger more relentless Epenesa

Marino talked about this quite a bit.  It’s what is more applicable in the NFL now rather than the bendy guy coming around the corner every snap. We shall see. I’m excited for the pick.

The Athletic: Team Summary

Favorite pick: Landon Jackson, Edge, Arkansas

"Had the Bills drafted Jackson in Round 1, I don't think anyone would have batted an eye. Despite being high cut and stiff, Jackson's combination of explosiveness and raw power will keep him in the league for a long time. His play style and motor fit the mold of what Buffalo wants on its defensive line, and he could be a future starter with Joey Bosa and AJ Epenesa set to be free agents after the 2025 season." — Dane Brugler

Day 3 pick who could surprise: Dorian Strong, CB, Virginia Tech

The Bills whiffed at cornerback in the first round of the 2022 draft (Kaiir Elam) but hit a home run in the sixth (Christian Benford). Though I don't think Maxwell Hairston will be a bust, it wouldn't be a shock if history repeated itself with this year's sixth-round corner outplaying expectations. At 6-1, 185, Strong is a smooth cover man and posted one of the best three-cone times (6.56) in the entire class." — Dane Brugler

I agree,  LJ’s  my favorite pick.  Love his motor, you can’t teach desire and enthusiasm.  Fortunately he has all the tools to boot!

I've watched a lot of Jackson's film since the draft. I didn't want Beane to use #30 on him coming in, but 3rd round was a steal. I really like his potential.

He is somewhat stiff, this is true, but his hands are near elite. And he makes up for some of that stiffness by going 110% at all times & by having the length to keep OTs from getting inside him.

He doesn't have the bend of the top DEs & may never develop it, but he'll get better over the next 2 years. He ran a 4.68 40- so he has long speed, but his short area explosion doesn't match his 40. His side-to-side quickness is pretty average & his get-off is just OK. I think these are the areas he can most improve. He's already a high-level technician, he just needs coaching to get more explosive.

I think he has more tools & upside than Epenesa, with a chance to surpass him before Week 1.

Rookie DPOY

why not?

12 Sacks  15 TFL 😎

That would be nice.

But not very likely. He has guys like Rousseau and Bosa above him. He'll be sharing reps with Epenesa and Hoecht when he returns. He's unlikely to be getting the kind of reps where he hits those kind of numbers. Rousseau has yet to put up those kind of numbers as a Starter. And Jackson isn't going to be starting in his Rookie year.

But I'd be here for him putting up numbers like that, obviously.

After the phone call he nods in affirmation and says "Buffalo" upon which the room explodes in celebration.

Obviously it was the fact that he had been drafted but also, being drafted by the Bills is no longer a reason to temper one's joy.
