Because Jones is washed and saves a good amount of money.

We can still make that decision at the end of Aug. In the meantime, what if our rookies just aren't ready. Jones might be the only decent option for the first half of the season. We won't know that part until camp.

To give Jones time to find another team.  Releasing him late looks bad.  They might also need the money for rookies.

Except - he's not a decent option.

He's gonna get cut.

Bills roster flexibility > Daquan's FA prospects. Teams take vets into camp and then cut them all the time. It's part of the business.

If cutting Daquan is the only path to signing our draft picks, then ok, but it doesn't look like that's the case.

Oliver is a very good player, you could argue has he been good enough for a top 10 pick but let’s not pretend Oliver isn’t a good player. The Lions had a top 2 Offensive line last season and Oliver took over that game. Yeah Ed’s had some bad or subpar games too but that’s dam near every single defensive player

Part of my thinking pre draft , is how to we shake Oliver free to do his thing. Give him one or two guys who can be the new improved D Jones.

Seems Bills might agree with me on this one.

Groot and Bosa and that guy who is suspend will likely see more positive results as well.

The Dline is improved , if they coach these guys to the best fit and scheme. Expecting adjustments now and as hoped , because of these two picks and Hairston who will play press well. Hopeful anyways

Is he ? Washed I mean ?

He could still be rotational player , and perhaps renegotiate ? Knowing he certainly is on the decline for sure

I hope this young man proves me wrong.  Wasn’t thrilled with the pick. However, he has legit pass rush skill inside.  He’s bigger than Oliver at least.  6’4  maybe he can get up to 310 as playing weight. Then we’re good.
Saw a pro comp of Milton Williams

Jones is done.  Give the hungry youngsters playing time to eat.

I have to say, as much as I’m pissed we didn’t get a clear replacement for Jones, this guy looks like he’s going to be a really solid player. Him and Ed should create a lot of problems on 3rd down. His pass rush skill set is pretty impressive.

Traded up for a sub 300 pound DT. I absolutely despise beane and can’t wait for this regime to be over with. Excited we had 2 2nd rounders and we just lit them on fire.

You're likely going to be unhappy for a long long long time, hopefully through several championships.

The correlation between rushing yards given up and losses would be my guess.  Higher the rushing yards given up the more frequent the losses.  Look at the January games on that list.  I count 4 January games we've given up over 120 yards rushing and have 1 win in those games.

If that's what he's trying to show, I don't think it shows that. Of course teams run more in January. And of course when opponents are ahead they run more.

Generally teams will give up more run yards in a loss , as down the end the other team will be running at a higher percentage if they're ahead.

Except we have only lost one game by 7 or more points in that entire sample. It’s not like teams are just running to run out the clock. They’re running to keep the ball away from our offense and to control the game. This isn’t a result of correlation at all. It’s how teams attack us and have been doing so for years. It just doesn’t matter that much when we have a 20 point lead.

This argument might show slightly less causation. It doesn't show none. Teams that are ahead by seven ... are ahead. Late in the game teams that are ahead are going to run more. Not as much as they'd run if they were ahead by 20. But more than they'd run if they were behind.

It's absolutely showing some causation.

DaQuan sure did look pretty done last year. I'm hoping there was some reason, but age-related regression seems the most likely cause.

Marino thought that bringing in Sanders meant that the Bills are likely to be moving Carter over to more 1-tech this year. That seems possible.

And bringing in Deone ought to mellow the "we must have a giant 1-tech or the sky is falling" crowd.
