So no drafting ANY DL early since everyone rotates? I cant keep up with all the posts in this thread, what position were you banging the table for that plays 80% of the snaps?

To me, I don’t really care about 1t vs 3t. I think that’s very much overblown, even with Daquan Jones looking washed. You can get 1t’s anywhere.

What I do NOT get is the draft strategy of giving up capital for a player who the best reasonable expectation is “rotational piece” for the next 2-3 seasons.

i was a big Nolen fan. I wanted Beane to take him at 30 if he was there. I would be AGHAST if he traded this years 1 and next years 1 to get him. That’s just poor strategy.

It’s fine to trade up for a BTJ when you have no WR on the roster. It would be fine to trade up for Sanders if Eddy was traded. But otherwise it just seems like bad resource management especially for a player I don’t particularly like. Jmo ofc

Not untrue, but that would make me question even more the logic of trading up for a guy to max out at 30-40% of the snaps?

Just seems to me 80% of snaps is inherently more valuable than 30%.

Fair, and Beane literally said that in his last interview before the draft...alluding to having a higher priority on secondary help than DL for those reasons heading into the draft essentially.  But DT was def still a need, we need to get off the field on 3rd downs...near last in the league was a massive issue.  Getting more guys on the DL to just get us off the field one or two more times a game puts us literally in the SB this year and past KC in our last 3 losses.

So if TJ can just impact 3rd downs and help our front guys affect the play and get us off the field more, thats a pretty important aspect we have literally been devoid of.

I get what you are saying...but its not 80% of the snaps we are struggling the most - its those 3rd down plays where we give up 3rd and long because our corners failed and our front guys got no pressure.  First 2 picks literally were to change those very things, which is what helped Philly dominate KC a game after we got embarrassed nearly every 3rd down by KC.

Will it work?  We will see, but I get the intent here.

True, but the same thing was said for Carter last year. He may be the forgotten man here bc in the first 5 games prior to injury he looked like he could be a player. Upon return...not so much

Year two is often the growth year or not .. we shall see. Several options for one to take a big step at DT and we need that depth.

We'll see how TJ's game translates to the NFL. I'm not so sure there will be that much of a gap, by years end. Time will tell.

That's different than saying that Edwards is immediately our best IDL.

I fully support beane but not sure about drafting DT.  When they took Oliver there are many other DTs who have been better who were taken after him.  We will see about sanders and Carter in time.

So he's drafted a good DT, but some were better drafted after him.  Carter, drafted at 95 last year, fully undetermined and Sanders an hour ago - and that makes Beane suspect at DT drafting?

Not undersized... maybe bit under weight... at 6'4"... I was expecting a 6'1" guy when you said that... guy could easily put on another 20-40 lbs and yet he is athletic.. we will see if trade makes sense if Bean can use some of those lower pics to move up again.

Yes!

Keep moving up, break the mold.

3-4 more likely starters, or better than that, is much more needed for the Bill now than a slew of players who cannot make the team.

Hard core Christian. Not gonna go there! 🤣🤣

I once was with a group of friends from a young adult Christian Singles Group. One of the girls had broken up with her boyfriend earlier in the day. It was our job as friends to help cheer her up. They asked me to rent a VHS to watch. I choose Life of Brian. The next week in Bible study, those of us who watched it broke out in "Always Look On The Bright Side of Life". And we laughed!

After the superbowl, everyone wanted a d-line that gets to the quarterback. This guy penetrates and gets in the backfield quick.

To the point that the TBD brain trust picked TWO DTs with our first 2 picks in our mock draft.

up 15 down 10 and used a day 3 swap to do it

our day 2 ammo ends more valuable - I’m ok

Seems like a “fair” trade” basically amounts to a pair of mid round picks to trade up 16 slots in round 2. Bills got a DT just not the big run stuffing player the fans wanted. Still plenty of picks to go

That is not what I said.  But can you articulate how he has mastered drafting the position?

but probably our best IDL already

Not exactly what I said, but what I did say is very likely to be true. We'll have to let the year play out and see.

Did the Eagles trade up for Milton Williams? I can’t recall.

I do know he wasn’t good enough to demand a second contract from them.

We wasn’t good enough to demand a 2nd contract?  lol @ the things that you lean on.

He was good enough that another team paid him 26M per season.

carry on.

Get us off the field on 3rd down in the playoffs and it’ll be worth the trade up.  No one has been able to do that for Josh Allen.  Inside pass rush.  Beane wanted it and he got it with the best one remaining.  That had a cost because staying where we were, I doubt he’d have been there.

You hate it.  I get it.  It’s all very predictable

Preach...😄

Literally what everyone is telling this guy, who just can't get past an arbitrary snap count %.

3rd down defense was our biggest issue IMO LY.  Cost us in. our biggest game of the year, and our goal is to get the ball back to Josh at good field position.

Somehow we managed an unbelievable offense, withstanding facts above.

Which is why Beane is focused on defense to start this draft

That doesnt answer the question of what position gets 80% of the snaps that you wanted. Another WR?

It was a hypothetical 80%.

The point was, given three options:

Taking player X at our original position who may be able to be a full time starter

Taking player Y at our original position who will likely be more of a rotational piece

Trading EXTRA CAPITAL to move up to take player Z who will likely be more of a rotational piece

the option I like least as a draft strategy is option 3.

Buffalo Bills: T.J. Sanders, DT, South Carolina – A Grade
The Bills traded up to this pick, but didn’t really surrender much for it. With that in mind, I love this pick. The Bills must have watched what the Eagles did to the Chiefs in the Super Bowl, so they know they need a great pass rush. They signed Joey Bosa, and now they traded up for T.J. Sanders, who has incredible upside as an interior defensive lineman.
