no, he cost 1.  We got 41, they got 56 and 63.  2-1=1.  

I thought this was settled when we traded for watkins.  Just because they used the pick for a player doesn't mean they didn't have a pick anymore.

That's how words work. Which you took semantic umbrage over.

You can say you like the value because we got xyz back. Thats fine. But it is UNDENIABLE that it cost 2 second round picks.

As per @GunnerBill's thought that we did NOT LOSE 2 seconds...

 

Look at it this way:

1. We moved up 15 spots from 56 to 41

2. We moved down 10 spots from 62 to 72.

 

We lost one of our two fourths and got pick 240.

 

That's not egregious at all to go up 15 spots. We only move down 10 with our second 2nd-rounder.

Here's the thing...we should have given up nothing because there was never any reason to believe this guy wasn't going to be available at 56.  No one had him going this high.

a bit of a mixed opinion  on his size his game AND compensation

 

I am squarely on the fence . He needs to show up and show OUT just like any draft pick

 

I'm good with a  diamond in the rough . If he is really Baller it will show out. and You KNOW I hope he will

Sanders was very likely the 49ers pick (as Gunner pointed out). And Collins was next pick at DT, so he would likely have been gone by 56 as well. Beane wanted a DT, and got a good one. And only moved back from 62 to 71 (plus lost a nice early 4th rounder, but trades have costs).

56, 62, and 109 = 212 pts.

 

41, 72, and 240 = 210 pts.

 

So a fairly even trade. It's ever so slightly titlted to the Bears.

I would preferred a pass rushing edge with AJE and Bosa not under contract next year.
