I got COMPLETELY the opposite.

It was never a DT at #30 in my book. I saw zero evidence if interest in it.

So, if one of the top DTs had magically fallen to us at 30, you believe Beane would have taken Hairston anyway? I’m not saying you’re wrong. I’m interested in your learned opinion on something I don’t research one iota.

OK, maybe ONE iota, but definitely not two. 😉

Yea I do. The Bills have specific profiles of player that they draft in round one and with the exception of Kincaid (where IMO they panicked when the receivers got wiped out) every first round pick from this regime has been in on a top 30 visit. They did have Williams (in fairness) but none of the others and Williams is the definition of a two down player and Beane said in his pre-draft presser that he sees two down players as less valuable in round one.

Shortly after the Bills pick was announced, the telecast cut to a view of the Bills "war room."  Nobody was smiling, and the body language was not upbeat.  No way to be sure, but I think the Bills might have been unhappy when Williams, the last highly rated, run stuffing, 1T DT got selected by Baltimore at pick # 28.

Of course Beane publicly said that he was happy that the Bills selected Hairston.  It may well be true that they had a 1st round grade on him, and we certainly needed a CB.  But my guess is they were actually hoping for Williams after DTs Grant, Harmon and Nolen were gone.

Had only the Bills lost to the Ravens .. they get Williams!!! What were they thinking 🤔.. I kid would have loved Williams 👍

The Bills don't seem like the type of organization that would tell multiple players that they will select them if they are there in the first round, so I do mostly believe Williams.  Would have been an interesting draft if it had worked out this way because a bunch of the CB prospects were available in the second round (and generally drafted later than expected).  Maybe would not have needed to trade up.

This was just mentioned on WGR

It’s of course possible that the Bills tell a handful of guys the same thing

& we may not have expected Maxwell to make it to 30

Wasn't he drafted by Detroit at Pick 28?

I don't think that's it. More like, fans are trying to get excited about the Hairston pick which looks like a legitimately solid pick, but for some it's harder to get as excited if they know Williams was actually our first choice and we just missed out.

Dude it’s Tyleik Williams. At no point was he considered a difference maker at Ohio state. He was an asset but positional value exists. First round?!
