Not sure why he would've said that if it wasn't true. Seems like we got a pretty talented DB though which we also really needed. 

 

The pressure to get a 1T next year in the 1st round will be much higher if we don't stumble into something.

Totally misleading thread title (and thread).  Here's the exact quote from Williams himself:

 

“Yeah, it’s kind of the same conversations I was having with the Lions," said Williams, when asked by Lions  about his pre-draft meeting with the AFC East squad. "They kind of told me if I was there, they wanted me. I had talks with the head coach, d-line coach. They said they loved my game and how I played. It definitely was a possibility."

I don't think that's it. More like, fans are trying to get excited about the Hairston pick which looks like a legitimately solid pick, but for some it's harder to get as excited if they know Williams was actually our first choice and we just missed out.

I don’t agree.  The draft at DL was said to be a lot deeper than at CB where there’s a step decline past the fire fee prospect.  No guarantee the one they’d be comfortable drafting would be available at 56

Yup...thats a lot different than what is being insinuated here.  Most important thing here is that when these meetings are happening, the teams evaluations of all players are not complete, their board isn't finalized, their scouting and interviewing isn't done.  There is no way as he is ending their meeting they are certain he is their guy...and then you still have the actual draft and how the board falls factoring in.  

 

Everything leading up to the draft suggested DB first, and everything I saw from Beane during and after the draft suggests to me they got their guy, especially given most the top corners were still on the board, so they had their pick of who they wanted.  Beane also said he had trade offers to go back, but they were not moving off him.

I honestly don't think it was ever going to be a DT. If it hadn't been a corner it would have been Scourton. The Bills have a method and they follow it.

At one point, he looked like he'd be a first-round pick, but now he doesn't even appear in the mocks draft as a second-round pick.

Is he injured or something?

"If he was there" doesn't necessarily mean the first round.  Thank you for posting this.

REALLY hoping we still grab an earlier rd DT.  A mauler that toughens up our front 7.   Toughness is the word of the day.  I hope.
