Warriorspikes51 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago This was just mentioned on WGR It’s of course possible that the Bills tell a handful of guys the same thing & we may not have expected Maxwell to make it to 30 1 1 Quote
Cash Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Are we sure he didn't mean Bill Belichick and Bill O'Brien? The 2023 Patriots were aggressively trying to trade into this draft. 1 Quote
Dave_Bills Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago I’m ok with who we got instead. I think other DTs can help us more Quote
DJB Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago (edited) Interesting but I’d hedge my bets Beane isn’t as firm as what is being told. Perhaps he told Tyleik “Hey we would love to see you at 30” And they probably say that to a couple of guys Edited 12 hours ago by DJB 1 Quote
Slack_in_MA Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I dunno. Listening to Beane’s presser, I got the feeling he thought he was getting a DT yesterday, and was a tad disappointed having to “settle” for Hairston. Not from anything he said but by his demeanor. 🤷 1 1 3 3 1 2 Quote

Logic Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I feel like every single year, there are multiple instances of players insinuating that X team told them they'd take them at pick X. I'm not sure how much teams just lie, how much is players hearing what they want to hear, and how much is reality. There's really no way TO know. If I had to doubt these assertions for any reason, it's simply that teams don't have a firm idea who will and won't be on the board when they pick. Why would they tell any player "we WILL take you at pick 30" if they have no idea whether a player they have ranked higher will be available when they pick? Seems weird. Who knows? 1 2 Quote

jahnyc Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago If Grant, Harmon and Nolen were taken before we picked in the first round, I was hoping we would draft Williams. It didn't work out this way, so we will end up with a DT prospect that is less recognized. The way the draft unfolded, I think taking Williams and then taking a CB could have worked out well since a number of highly rated CBs would have been available in the second round, but we are where we are. 1 Quote

ControllerOfPlanetX Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago I think Beane told Sanders that they were taking him at 30. 1 2 Quote

I agree for the most part. The pre-draft Beane presser made me think it was corner first round but once those DTs started flying off the board my gut told me Harmon will be the pick if he falls. He didn’t though and I’m happy with our boy Hairston 🥳 2 Quote

He didn’t sound disappointed to me. I would agree with this. It seems like Beane and the FO is all about value and the drop off at CB after the first round or so is steep. There is much more depth at DT, especially considering players like Williams will essentially be a 2 down DT. 46 minutes ago, jahnyc said: If Grant, Harmon and Nolen were taken before we picked in the first round, I was hoping we would draft Williams. I don’t agree. The draft at DL was said to be a lot deeper than at CB where there’s a step decline past the fire fee prospect. No guarantee the one they’d be comfortable drafting would be available at 56 1 Quote
ICanSleepWhenI'mDead Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago Shortly after the Bills pick was announced, the telecast cut to a view of the Bills "war room." Nobody was smiling, and the body language was not upbeat. No way to be sure, but I think the Bills might have been unhappy when Williams, the last highly rated, run stuffing, 1T DT got selected by Baltimore at pick # 28. Of course Beane publicly said that he was happy that the Bills selected Hairston. It may well be true that they had a 1st round grade on him, and we certainly needed a CB. But my guess is they were actually hoping for Williams after DTs Grant, Harmon and Nolen were gone. 3 Quote
