And 18 months younger. But yep, agree. I still think it Hairston was gone they'd have picked Amos. I think they liked them both a lot.

I will commend a post by @sven233 which talks about his usage in Kentucky's D and I agree with what he wrote (although will repeat my point from earlier on the Bond breakup - the left hand gets there a bit early on the shoulder / back of Bond before he reaches the right across and he has to watch that in the NFL with the flag happy zebras).

I'm about to head out but I will try and come back with some more on similarities to our D later.

This is the hardest part of projecting a CB to the NFL. College allows them to play, the NFL does not. Elam was too reliant on his hands and couldn't grasp the coverage concepts. Hairston should have no issue with our scheme, but I imagine we will see some yellow thrown his way at first. Just the nature of NFL officiating.

It's hard to say drafting a fast CB,is bad. It's not. And of course the draft is not over.

But right now we have an underachieving DE that fell down on the ground the entire AFC Championship game and disappears for huge stretches of the season, a good but not great 3 tech DT in Oliver, two PED cheats, and a guy that is broken more often than not on the DL.

Lack of pass rush and inconsistent run stopping was the problem with the defense last year. If this kid is an upgrade over Douglas it will help. But they still have serious issues on the DL to address.

It will be interesting to see if there were any trades offered that Beane turned down. Falcons and Giants gave up a ton of draft capital to make moves back into first round.

It’s so nice to have someone with a glass half empty take on everything

I gave you an "awesome" for your post Gunner, though I wish I could have given you a "thanks" too.

I don't watch college football much and do not spend a lot of time researching the draft, so I really appreciate posters like you (Gunner), Gonzo, Virgil, and all of the other guys that help get the rest of us up to speed with all things draft-related. Much appreciated guys! I know you all put a lot of work into it. 👍

Given the elite 1T options turned out to be pipe dreams, I'm still quite happy with this outcome. Having someone who can turn and run with guys from press is such an advantage even if you don't do it often. But even our base look off the line is way more dangerous now with Hairston's closing speed and ability to recover. This is one way to make our DL more effective in pass rush.

Well that's the thing. If the ball is coming out in 2 seconds because guys are wide open against 10-yard cushions, it doesn't matter if your DL is Bruce Smith, Aaron Donald, Reggie White and Lawrence Taylor. That was THE glaring difference in what the Eagles did to the Chiefs vs what the Bills did, besides not getting screwed by the refs.
