SoMAn Posted Friday at 03:25 PM Posted Friday at 03:25 PM (edited) ok, this probably sounds stupid to many of you...but what does 'tipping picks' mean? I gather it's defined as revealing player picks prior to formal announcement to public through TV or radio. Am I on the right track? Are there posters here who somehow know ahead of the broadcasted Commish announcement? Insiders? Family or associates of prospects when the calls are made? NFL insider info from somebody within the league? Anyway, it would take a tier-one A-hole to deliberately spoil it for others just so they can say, "I was first". It has something to do with the pick being known and listed on the league wire before the announcement, and people on social media taking advantage of that. 1 1 Quote
RiotAct Posted Friday at 05:37 PM Posted Friday at 05:37 PM didn’t notice anyone tipping picks yesterday which was awesome… unless @Simon was extremely quick on the trigger? 1 1 Quote
Royale with Cheese Posted Friday at 05:46 PM Posted Friday at 05:46 PM I have a source that tells me the Bills are drafting Shadeur and then use him to trade for a 1st round pick in 2026. Quote

There was a little bit of unintended spoiling of picks because everyone's television feed runs at different rates. For example, people were discussing the big trade before my NFL Network feed announced it. Quote

947 Posted Friday at 06:23 PM Posted Friday at 06:23 PM Somebody tipped Miami taking Grant about a minute before it happened on TV. I found it annoying, but got over it. Quote
Virgil Posted Friday at 06:42 PM Posted Friday at 06:42 PM Now, what about people like me who prefer just the tip? Quote

When I refer to idiots who just want to ruin the enjoyment for others that is who I am talking about. If someone arrives here unsuspecting because they have seen something on twitter, posts in the draft thread, unaware that they are tipping picks I wouldn't call them an idiot. But that is not what we have dealt with in previous years. It was particularly bad that one year... I think 2022. It's been better since. And last night was perfect. It was perfect for you because you were watching Network TV but it wasn't perfect for anyone that was watching Joe Marino - Locked on Bills for example. We knew the pick while you were at commercial, behind, etc. So you I didn't really come to TBD. We just group texted with about a dozen or so folks that are in our friends and family group throughout the country. I mean it's no problem, I just wanted to offer another thought vs they're A holes. So if you really like the pick, you tip 20% or more. If you think it's OK, go around 15%. If you don't like the pick you can go 10% or as low as zero. But if you are in Japan or Australia, for example, no tips are needed. I think I got it? Quote

I will TRY to stick with one and just keep it there and NOT tip a single thing. The issue is some media know who got drafted before it was formerly announced. last night I was seeming espn alerts on my device about 30 seconds before I saw it on TV. Since my feed goes through a DVR box it’s delayed. I see this delay in Sabres broadcasts through nhl center ice package I buywhere I can see twitter posts about 30-60 sec before I see it in tv. 1 Quote

I understand and certainly don't agree with Intentionally trying to ruin anyone's draft experience. Hence I agreed with the mods just making the call. The choice was to accommodate the broadcast participants. Cool! Quote

Chris Berman used to tip the Bills pick on the ESPN broadcast before the Bills turned in the card. He'd say a "cab driver" told him. The best one was when the guys on the broadcast were getting ready for the Bills pick & Berman says "how about John Fina?" a guy who was so far off Mel Kiper's radar that he didn't even get a writeup in Kiper's draft report.
