An OLED Tv is much different. OLED = organic light emitting diodes. There are literally BILLIONS of small light emitting diodes

Not quite billions - we aren't capable of putting a billion pixeled diodes on a tv yet (or even 50 million for that matter). But they are pretty impressive to look at!

I miss my plasma TV.

Panasonic Plasma TVs in the 2004-07 era were the best TVs ever made or ever will be made. A 50" also weighed about 150lbs, but still. That picture was GORGEOUS.

I think that’s my kids brand and around when he bought it. Paid over $4000, but it was smaller. Has a few much larger nice Sonys in his romp room, but you’re drawn to the plasma.

Still have one in the man cave. Only a 50”, but it’s hard to beat the picture.

Oops, I meant millions. lol

A typical 4k OLED TV is roughly 8.3 million pixels as 4k resolution is 3840x2160 (= 8.2 something million pixels) and each pixel = 1 OLED diode, but each diode is 3 sub pixels in one (red, blue green), so more like 24 million.

And yes, very impressive to look at!

I paid the Sony tax, as they say with the x95k miniLED in 2022. When shopping the OLEDs looked beautiful but were more spendy. Yep, Sony sets are a bit more expensive but very worth it.  Three years on and I still love it.

I have a new 55" S90D Samsung QD-OLED and I love it.  Squid ink under glass blacks, powerful punchy bright colors and whites.  Streaming youtube via Amazon Firestick (with no ads thanks to a special free app) is extremely clear, but 4K physical media movies are where this set really shines so I got a 4-disc-per-month subscription from Choovie.  Lawrence of Arabia was simply stunning, there is no other word to describe it.

Here is one I have been looking at.

Would this be the lower value one you suggest to avoid?

They were definitely amazing TV’s but I think top tier new OLED and QD-OLED TVs look better.

i actually have an old Panasonic plasma from that era and my newer Sony OLED is better in every way.

Do you stream on the Sony using the built in smart TV apps? If so, I’d recommend picking up an external streaming device like a fire stick 4k.

It's connected to a DirecTV DIsh  and antenna and I stream Youtube sometimes through the TV. I have firesticks for the 4 plasmas as DirecTV has an app now and got rid of all of the extra DTV receivers. I have  Matrix splitter and can send the DTV receiver signal to the plasmas as well.

About 7 years ago, one of the contracts with the employer I had was going in to a regional bank branches, and replacing the plasma TV's (42" inch) they had in the lobby with newer LED TV's, because the video player they were using to display ads on the TV's, had newer ads with a resolution that the older plasma TV's could not handle. We were told instead of shipping the plasmas back to the main bank office, just dispose of them however we could, legally. I gave away so many to family and friends that by the end I couldn't give them away. I'd take them to Best Buy for recycling, the desk person would ask if there was anything wrong, and I'd just say, nope, and that once it left my possession, if an employee wanted it, as far as I was concerned, they could take it.
