Ethan's mock Bills draft

For the second year in a row Bills trade down.  Bills address DL early and add insurance at WR and RB.  I've seen several mocks with Ezeiruaku to Bills at #30 so it is not much of a stretch to see him fall 3 more spots. Late round projects at OT and backup QB.  Parish if he is still on the board is a guy that can play some outside or be groomed to take Taron's slot role in the future. I like him a lot and would not mind them giving up a late round pick to move up and take him a little higher.  Bills need to stop spending big dollars on backups that are terrible and never play. Time to groom a rookie for QB #3 this year that can be QB #2 in 2026 and beyond. Bills take first Punter in round 5. 

 

Trade:  Bills #30, #109, #177 for Cleveland #33, and #94.  Cleveland moves back into the first round and selects Jalen Milroe after taking Travis Hunter at #2. ward, Sanders, and Dart are gone. Browns OC has ties to Milroe.  Browns have many holes so getting an extra late pick that they may be able to package with a few of there other ones should be desirable. I think the math works out close enough on the trade chart.

No offense but I hate this. Tyleik is fine but he won’t realistically last to 56. Our greatest need is CB and it’s ignored until pick #132. Parish is fine at 132 but he’s not starting. We don’t need a RB, OT or QB yet we draft one of each while ignoring TE, a 2nd Dt and a 2nd CB. With the same trades this is what I would do:

Fair take. I disagree on CB but I understand where you are coming from.  McD has proven to be able to plug and play just about anybody except Elam at CB.  I'm not worried about CB.  McD believes the best way to defend is to rush with 4.  On that he is also correct.  He and Beane have just failed miserably at finding guys to do the job. They just have to keep trying.  Sawyer is a nice college story but he is not fast enough to play edge in NFL. He's a worse prospect than Epenesa was.  

Walker would be a good pick at 132 as a rotational and developmental DT.  I think they can do better than Royals at WR.  I don't see a need at TE.  I can't see Beane letting Knox leave.  He's too close to Josh and he has been a model locker room guy.  Grant would be fine at 33, but I think he will be gone.

Scouting Report: Strengths

Ideal height for the position 6’2″, 193 pounds but still moves with nice agility and quickness

A former receiver that skills translate to the defensive side of the game - has a great vertical jump combined with a natural timing

Tracks the ball well in the air - had an interception and three passes broken up last season, and his 13 pass breakups in 2020 tied for the fourth-most in the country

Very aggressive in coverage with good top-end speed - ran track in high school and it shows

Aware in coverage - has a natural feeling for the game

While built more like a cornerback than a safety, he has the vision, range, hitting ability, and ball skills teams want at free safety in the pass-heavy NFL.

Closes to the ball quite well and possesses the hands to ***** throws away from his frame.

Good instincts and anticipation reads and reacts with discipline. Dangerous with the ball in his hands.

Aware in the red zone, stays on the backline to take away fade throws. Capable of making quarterbacks pay for late throws.

The Bills should be on the outlook for any team who wants to jump up for one of the quarterbacks. Milroe.. what’d I miss here.. the little I watched, he was a bad thrower, to the point of concern. I don’t get how he becomes even starting caliber. Crazy to me.

I think Milroe will be bad too but he has ties to Cleveland OC. Cleveland GM and HC are on hot seat to find another QB. There are five teams desperate for a QB ( Titans, Browns, Steelers,  Saints, and Raiders)  so at least one will overdraft for a guy like Milroe.

Yeah it would take some luck for him to slip, but guys fall every year. Torrence was supposed to be our first round pick and he slipped to 2nd round.

Everything is a guess right now...so no ones mock is "wrong".

 

But I honestly think its pretty unlikely we wait until the 4th to address the secondary.  And if you look at our pre-draft visits, Beanes presser yesterday, etc all signs point to a DB early in this draft IMHO.

I don't like much of it but I particularly hate Savion Williams at #62. Unless having a pair of big slots who can't separate outside is now the NFL equivalent of a royal flush in poker?
