As the trade deal between the US and India is nearly finalized, it appears the Trump and Modi administrations have agreed to far deeper ties as it pertains to the production of energy, technology and military capabilities.

India has surpassed China as the most populated country in the world, while China is seeing massive population decline.

On a personal note, a very close liberal friend of mine is rooting for Europe, Canada and Mexico to align with China and take the US down.

Here's an alternative vision- the US / India alliance.

India is the 3rd largest economy in the world and will possibly be #1 eventually at it's current pace. This is a big friggin deal. Europe and Canada can join up all they want. A US and India alliance is unstoppable and much needed if the goal is to take down China

So we're promising to open trade to a country with a huge population, rock bottom labor costs, few regulations and enormous growth potential that is historically distrustful of us...

Anybody feeling like they heard this song before, back in the 1990s?

We will be bringing manufacturing back to the US but it will take time and you still need low priced suppliers for cheap accessory goods. Clearly we won't be getting them from China anymore and they have a lot of influence on Vietnam and Korea. India will be a good partner to have assuming they strike the right balance between imports and exports. We were buying everything from China and they weren't buying anything from us which is how we ended up in this mess.

So make India into China, so we can screw them over in a few years, after we get manufacturing infrastructure going?  Why would India agree to that?  Are they really really stupid, or is this the 'art of the deal'?  It sure sounds like it's just a China do over to me.

Yes they will likely end up as the new China but that buys us time to get manufacturing setup here in the meantime. I think people are underestimating the threat that it was an act now or it's too late deal in regards to China. They were gearing up for war and planned on invading Taiwan as early as next year. It was now or never.

India has a lot to gain, but so do we.

The historical distrust has everything to do with the Truman administration aligning with Pakistan during the partition.

That's ancient history, and our shared stance against Islamic terrorism and Chinese expansion make this partnership a no-brainer.

India historically aligned with Russia during the Cold war because of our support of Pakistan.

But now India has pivoted away from Russian military hardware and is investing in US hardware.

Not to mention, India shares a 3,500 kilometer border with China, who has been threatening to seize India's most sacred site for strip mining.

As the US and Chinese economy decouples, it stands to reason that a partnership between the US and India fill the void.

And that's what's really important. How you feel about things and people.

I’m a bit confused by the back and forth here.  Your liberal friend who is rooting for China, he closed a trillion dollar trade deal?  Or is the trade deal you referenced between the US and India the deal you were referencing?

It is correct to conclude China will invade Tiawan. To gain control of advanced chip making technologies for starters. At a time their miltary is stronger and ours is weaker. If we do nothing now defeat is guaranteed.

In the past decade China has built out their Navy with a large domestic ship building industry. What exactly do you think America's ship building capacity is after most domestic heavy industry has been moved offshore? More or less nothing.

And then what happens to our supply chain if or when there is war with China? We would be screwed, they make everything for us. Whatever people think about Trump, this had to happen now. It's about more than stock prices. This is about avoiding WW3. I think India can help pick up the slack until we can become more self sufficient. We shouldn't be relying on our enemies for manufacturing

Nope.  I highlighted the part about your liberal friend.

And I was wondering who this friend of yours that's closing trillion dollar deals is.

😭 Didn't see the highlighted part on my phone, it only showed me the JD Vance video. This makes so much more sense!
