James Cook absent from OTA's

15 million AVV would make him the third highest paid RB in the league after Barkley and McCaffrey. He'd be above Kamara, Jonathan Taylor etc. To me, Cook is an 8-9 million dollar a year back, and I think that is fair. That puts him in that tier right below Josh Jacobs. JMO.

But these aren't workouts. They're not playing football. 

 

Labeled as Phase 1, the first two weeks are solely comprised by "meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation."

This is why Cooke is negotiating through social media, to get folks to make assumptions of unfairness from Beane.

ok so meet in the middle and go 10 mil. He's better than josh Jacobs. Not in Pass pro obviously but he's better for sure.

Personally, I like Jacobs a little better, but I think that is a very fair number for Cook. And the 15 million a year posturing may just be him trying to get 10, which I think I would be okay with.

Over the top of what?  He has yet to put us over the top of anything and he plays with a top 2 QB and a great Oline.

I've always wondered why the players get this option to be honest, it just blurs the lines. 

 

They're making multimillions in a sport where every competitive advantage is meaningful, so there's your answer. They're allowed to miss it technically, but it doesn't show well.

It was negotiated in the CBA that's why. For starters and other players secure in their status on the team, they can pretty much not show up and be OK.  For others trying to make the team or fight for a starting job or primary back role, it can be voluntary to show up, but it is also voluntary as to who they decide to keep on the roster as well.

10 is fair for someone that can beat any lb in the league to the corner as well as smoke most safeties in coverage out of the backfield. Brady is no dummy and Cook got the ball so much because we  knew he was and is a mismatch problem. his explosiveness and production out of the backfield is just straight up elite. not sure another running back on the roster can give us cook's production. So pay the man 10 or 11 mil/yr and be done with it. And if he doesn't take it he can pound sand.

Right, and I understand the player's union negotiating for their players. I personally just thinks it puts them in a precarious position since it's not looked upon favorably if a player skips the voluntary workouts.

Not if you are a key player it doesn't.  And that's why you almost always only see it being players that know they are still the starter no matter what.

I never said Beane didn't make a fair offer, nor did I say he did....  Beane may have made one he may not have... He may have lowballed him, he may have been very fair I have no idea and neither does anyone that I know....   what i do know is that it takes two people to come to an agreement... So very simply I said some of this is on Beane... if cook is gonna stay he needs to make a fair market offer that cook is going to accept... and I suspect that if they do come into agreement this year that Beane will need to make a fair market offer and Cook will need to accept less than 15mm.

The price has apparently gone up for the Cowboys.  My cousin's husband works on the Bills video crew for PSA and says that James Cook is maybe  the  most quiet and reserved person he's ever met to the point  of socially awkward.   This is 100%  coming from his agent and  brother.

No matter whether you think Cook is normally a humble, team player or not, he has taken the me-first mode since the end of the season. 
 

He has complained he wasn’t used more last season . He has scrubbed the Bills off his social media. He has tried to negotiate publicly, declaring he deserves 15 mil. per season on social media. He has put his house up for sale. He is a no show to the first off-season workouts ( yes, non-mandatory). 
 

All his actions are me-first, Diggs type moves. None are humble, team-first moves. 
 

If Buffalo does pull off a draft day trade, I will completely understand.

Dalvin was cooked after two years of that extension and is out of the league at age 29. Buyer beware because there is literally a family history of this type of extension not working out.

Dalvin had a lot of miles on him and he's hardly the only RB who faded fast on his second contract. Its a tough position.  Can't fault the Cooks for trying to get as much as they can.  The next contract will be the biggest one he ever signs.

Yeah I hear that, I don't fault them for taking this stance, though I would hope James would just negotiate with Beane and his agent. But the Bills are dumb if they do this. He's a nice player, but when Cook was out, they were fine.

I am hoping it doesnt go off the rails... there has got to be a fair deal to be had by all...  but like you said.. plenty have gone wrong that started like this...
