I like this draft.  I agree the Bills will likely avoid Bond, who has spent his time since college football ended, accumulating red flags.  Maybe instead of Bond, they might take a look at Arian Smith, whose negatives include questions about his college production and his hands.

Yep but Farmer is more of a 3T than a 1T - he's a player definitely on our radar if we get a Grant/Tyleik/Collins 1T type early in the draft. Farmer is big enough to play 1T occasionally (maybe passing downs) but at 305, he's not big enough to focus there. A combo of  Grant and Farmer, to go along with Oliver could be a game changer

We are fortunate there are several DT's that can come in and help at 1 tech.

Yep it's a great year to be DT needy and have 10 picks. I don't see any way we don't draft 2 DT's and also probably 2 CB's.  I think there are DT's we could draft in the 5th or 6th round who will be better than the kid we drafted from Duke last year in the 3rd round.

Trading down makes sense, but I don't like the wide receivers.  Higgins doesn't separate well enough and Isaiah Bond is a bust waiting to happen.  Substitute Ayonomar, Noel, Royals with the earlier WR pick and take DB, DL, OL depth instead of waiting a pick on Bond.  Even if you want a wide receiver late, take someone like Tslaa or Lambert Smith.  But don't bother, they really offer no more than Tyrell Shavers or Virgil.  So make the developmental pick with DB, DL, OL.

 

 

I also don't think we need to get all the way up to 65 with the Giants.  Not likely.  But they have 99.  Can always move up from there if needed.

True / if he’s gone there’s always Kevin Williams, Jaylen royals and later in Thornton.

Along with possibly Ayomanor, Bech, Bond, Horton, Savion, Armstrong, Lane and a few others.  Not a strong WR class but there are a few that could help out

Yep - NYGs are probably our best trade down partner due to the relationship between Schoen and Beane and the NYG's desperation at QB.  Here's the latest mock I just did which actually offered me the NYG Trade:

30 and 109 for 34 and 65 - NYG drafted Dart at 30.

 

34. Walter Nolen DT Ole Miss - I took him over Grant which I'm not sure I would do, but, I think (a) his pass rush upside is too high to pass up, (b) he's only 21 and (c) I'm confident I'll be able to couple him with a 1T run stuffer later. I could easily be talked into Grant though.

 

56. Shavon Revel CB East Carolina - Injury concerns probably caused him to slide as he's a 1st round talent and maybe the 3rd best CB in the draft.  We get him late in the 2nd. I like his loyalty as ECU is the only DIV 1 school to offer him a scholarship, so he stayed there instead of cashing in and transferring.  With his ACL ?, I intend to draft another CB rather early.

 

62. Kyle Williams WR Washington State - Our new deep threat - possibly the quickest WR in the draft out of breaks and has 4.4 speed. Insane production in 2024:   70 catches for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns. At 5'11", 190 pounds he's got some thickness too him - Basically Diggs' size with a lot more speed.

 

65. Bradyn Swinson EDGE LSU - Plenty of quality Edges were available here (some rated higher in the mock), but I like this guys run support, bend and all around game soI  took him. Undeniable motor and huge arms (33") - something Beane loves.

 

132. Jamaree Caldwell DT Oregon - here's the 332 pound fatty to supplement Oliver and Nolen.  He's a poor man's Grant, with more consistency (higher floor) but certainly a lower ceiling. He possibly could take over from Jones in running downs, who we may see cut if he doesn't bounce back from a bad 2024.

 

169. Zah Frazier CB UTSA - If revel isn't 100% at the start of the season, here's the alternative.  Only missed two tackles in 2024 and is a willing/active run defender - two qualities McDermott looks for in a CB. He had 6 INT's in 2024, is huge at 6'2" but could use some muscle (186 pounds).  5th fastest CB at combine with a 4.36 40. I would be willing to take this guy a lot higher than 169, even at #65 if we don't think edge is a priority.

 

170. Caleb Ransaw CB Tulane - Very good size, played every position from Safety to corner to slot to LB - insane athlete whom I'm willing to take earlier. I'm grooming him for safety.

 

173.  Jack Kiser LB Notre Dame - Solid tackler, above average athlete, good size.  Best LB available at this point.

 

177. Mitchell Evans TE Notre Dame - Solid overall TE, replacement for Morris and will compete with Davidson for final TE spot.

 

206. Alex Mastromanno P Florida State - averaged 50 yards per kick and 45 net - Australian guy and will probably win our punting job

From my experience, the real draft never is close to the mock drafts - some players go a lot earlier; some a lot later.  But, I think Unless someone falls that they covet if we can get a 3rd rounder by moving back from 30, I think we do it in a second.  It would Allow us to fill all 4 major needs (DL, Edge, CB, WR) in the 2nd and 3rd round in a draft that looks great in the 1nd and 3rd round (and not so great in round 1).

 

In the end, from someone who was crushed that we took the wrong Josh in 2018, I'll never question Beane all that much.

Love all of these but, my gut tells me:

34 Nolen will be gone as will Grant (and they'll also be gone before 30), so we'll have to choose between Tyleik williams and amy remaining CB's:  Morrison, Revel, etc

56 I think Landon gets overdrafted - if we want him it would have to be at 34 and I don't want him at 34

62 Porter - love porter but 50/50 he's there at 62.  If we go DL at 34, I have no problem taking him at 56.

62 - we should have a really goo wr here (Royal)- You're choice of Watts is really solid, my only issues is he's not starting in 2025

My gut is with his size/speed combo Thornton goes higher than 132 - love him as a high risk/reward player

#34  CB Amos - Ole Miss - great zone CB and Bills have met numerous times with him

#56  DE Landon Jackson - Arkansas - Bills have met numerous times with him

#62  DT Alfred Collins - Texas - not a great pass rusher (but room for improvement) but a 332 pound 1T whom I think is the best run stuffer in the draft.  I passed on TJ Sanders and Darius Alexander cuz I wanted the pure 1T guy, not a 3T guy

#65  WR  Jayden Higgins - Iowa State -I took him over Kevin Williams as I think he's a more complete WR. 6'4" 214 who runs a 4.49 40 with great stats last year:  87 catches 1,183 yards with 8 TD's.  Think Gabe Davis on Steroids (more speed, better route tree).  This is why you trade down in RD1, to get a 4th pick in the top 65 and grab another starter.

 

Amos is a day 1 starter as is Jackson and Collins (in McDermott's rotational DLine scheme) + I think Higgins is the 2nd best WR on our roster on Day 1 of training camp.

132 Jordan Phillips - Maryland - I double down on DT with another mauling DT that the Bills seem enamored with

169  Jaydon Blue - Texas - Fastest RB in draft with 4.37 speed.  Not much wear on the body (split carries at Texas), is an outstanding receiver out of the backfield and unlike Cooke, is a willing and good blocking RB

170  CB/S Caleb Ransaw - Tulane - I doubled down on CB with an athletic freak that can play every position in the secondary. He's a great tackler (which is a must for McDermott) with great speed and decent size.  The reason he's available so late is he needs to improve his ball skills

173  WR Isaiah Bond - Texas -  I doubled down on WR here.  I don't think Buffalo makes this pick, but, the chance to get a 2nd round WR talent in the 6th round is too good to pass. Hopefully his off season issues are resolved.

177  LB  Shaun Dolac - Buffalo -  a nice local boy story, but this kid can play

206  P Alex Mastromanno - Florida state - Our current two punters are blah, this guy comes to camp as our #1 punter - 

 

This would be a great draft. Dolac is going to surprise people.
