sherpa Posted Monday at 04:32 PM Posted Monday at 04:32 PM There's a good deal of irony in this. Jesus was put to death by the Romans, because the Jews did not have that power under occupation. He was put to death on a made up charge of sedition, which was a capital offense under Roman rule. The Jewish church Pharisees and leaders pleaded with the Romans to do it, thought Pilate had no desire to do so. The reason they did it was because he was upsetting their nonsense Jewish law, which they had invented over the years, far away from what Moses was given. So, Jesus gets executed for going against non religious traditions. Everything posted in the claim of disparaging the Easter celebration is also a non religious human "tradition." Quote
thenorthremembers Posted Monday at 05:38 PM Posted Monday at 05:38 PM I am very much a Chrisitan however the way Easter is actually carried out is not a fun time for me. I wake up at 5am to get to sunrise service by 7am. Get home by 9am to cook dinner for 15 people. Serve lunch at 12pm. Exhausted by the time everyone leaves around 2pm but have to get to the in laws by 4pm. By the time Easter is done I've spent $300 dollars on the dinner, and another $300 dollars on Easter baskets for the kids. Wake up at 6pm for work on Monday still tired from the day before. That said, I do get joy from seeing how much my kids love it. To be fair, I am not a big fan of most holidays. I am incredibly tied to routine and anything that shakes it up turns me into a scrooge. The Christmas tree part of Christmas and the bunny/eggs part of Easter ARE pagan in origin, and those are actually my favorite parts of those holidays, respectively. But I'm not a Christian, so I suppose that's why. It's the cross-pollination of the two things, the Christianity and the Pagan seasonal celebrations, that is so fascinating to me. As for the insertion of sugar and baked goods into both holidays, well....America gonna America, I guess. Quote
Mark Vader Posted Monday at 07:55 PM Posted Monday at 07:55 PM @Johnny Hammersticks at least Easter is an actual holiday that you get off from school/work, that is until schools changed Easter vacation to Spring break. Unlike fake holidays like St. Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Cinco de Mayo or Halloween(which I love). I think Easter is a very good holiday, but if it isn't your thing, so be it. 1 Quote
WotAGuy Posted Monday at 08:32 PM Posted Monday at 08:32 PM Why are you all carrying your crosses on Easter? You're supposed to plant it on Friday. It’s your own fault for not taking charge of the family, like a man is supposed to do. Tell her to make you a sandwich and lay on the couch in your underwear, like God intended. Quote
Mikie2times Posted Monday at 08:38 PM Posted Monday at 08:38 PM (edited) One time I had a colonoscopy and I was wasn't actually knocked out. Whatever they gave me, I was flying. But again, awake, and somewhat aware I was flying. So I would take that experience over most Easters. But since then I have had two more. Not as much fun. Just the awful bowel prep, fully knocked out, and groggy/out of it after. If it was like those ones I'm all Easter bunny. Fun times. Edited Monday at 09:07 PM by Mikie2times 1 Quote

Easter is just a pain in my ass. I’m not religious at all, so take that out of the equation. Have to wake up early on a Sunday which stinks. With the exception of deviled eggs, I don’t like any of the food. I also am not a big sweets guy. It also doesn’t help that I live in Vermont and it’s still cold here. Easter is an all-around loser holiday for me, but I can understand why some really get into it. I do really enjoy Halloween, but they make a really big deal about it in my town. Huge parade with a big block party. We have friends over for trick or treating. Drink some choice beers while the kids are running around the neighborhood. Valentines Day is sometimes nice depending on which day it falls. The wife and I usually plan a small trip or go out to a nice restaurant. Cinco de Mayo hasn’t really been a “thing” since my younger days. Quote
Fleezoid Posted Wednesday at 08:08 PM Posted Wednesday at 08:08 PM Eggs, chocolate and pink rabbits. An 'Alice in Wonderland' kinda weird. And while it was nice getting a basket full of candy as a kid, all my chocolate Easter Bunnies were hollow! What a gyp! Quote
