When I first saw he signed yesterday I thought it was a 1 day contract to retire a Bill.

I guess he is here to be a mentor to the young cornerback group they are about to have.  If they draft or 1 or 2 its a really young group at outside corner so White could play a role as a mentor.

Welcome back Tre' ... It'll be nice seeing him holding the Lombardi in February 2026 and with a ring on his finger after. He knows the system and will be a great mentor to the young guys.

Now lets go find our starter for the next decade.

To be fair to Tre, he looked cooked when he came back from the ACL and the following season looked like he was back to form.

Maybe he needed the extra year for the Achilles.

As some have said, if he's even 80-90% old Tre White this is an awesome signing.

At worst, we know he's a team player.

I don't necessarily mind the signing especially since I expect the real salary to be minimal. I just don't want it to turn into a thing where it's week 8 and our highly drafted rookie can't get on the field because Tre is in front of him. From a pure football perspective I feel about this signing the same way that I would if we had re-signed Douglas. Which is to say I hope the intention is for him to be nothing more than depth that happens to have familiarity with the system.

I unfortunately don't have any optimism he can get back anywhere near the player he once was. I'd love to be proven wrong but I think physically he is done. I've seen a growing narrative that he was a good player for Baltimore. I mean he was better than he was with LA almost by default, but he also only played 34% of defensive snaps for Baltimore. Brandon Stephens was getting deliberately targeted by their opponents and was widely hated by their fanbase, and they still opted to keep him as the starter in front of Tre. So I would keep the expectations low.

Maybe he’s finally recovered from his torn ACL and Achilles?

He was just starting to look like himself after the ACL when he tore the Achilles. He was slow to come back, but he was getting there after knee surgery. Maybe he’s at the point where he fully trusts the Achilles again. It seems worth a shot to me.

This would be ideal. My expectations aren’t high so no big disappointment if he’s not effective.

I will bet you a shiny nickel that after they take a corner on thursday or friday and we have the first full mini camp, White becomes the "leadership" "Mentor" "Coach on the field" guy.

There are other buzz words for this but they are slipping my old mind at the moment.   They are coming though.  Its a young room that gets really young if they take 2 corners or 1 corner and a safety.

He is a better option  vs the chiefs if benford is hurt again also I would imagine.  He can step in and play decently for a game or two and especially in an emergency.

Always a fan of the former good cb moving to S.

This only works if your CB is a very good tackler. Tre White is a lot of good things, but not a good tackler.

If you look at White's advanced defense stats he started the year off in LA with three bad games but then was fairly solid the rest of the season.  He's further removed from injury and younger than Bradbury.  Trying to be positive.  I always liked White hopefully he has something left.

All I've seen was that he had a 52.9 rating from PFF for the entire season - putting him in the bottom 25% of NFL CBs.

Do you have a Rams/Ravens breakdown?

But as I recall, Tre didn't participate in OTAs last year, so he was far from fully recovered.  Really hoping he's healthier and better this season.

I mean, if they thought there was 0% chance he could play, I agree.

But they just brought back Micah last year to be around the guys.

It's a start in the right direction to improve the Buffalo secondary this offseason. Nothing is etched in stone about anyone starting, except perhaps for a guy named Josh.

Those injuries take a long time to heal and I give the Buffalo scouting dept credit for knowing that Tre can still play at a top level.

In a mentorship role and backup capacity, I love this. Draft a CB in the first 3 picks and let Tre take him to Goalie school.

still a bit pricey though…

it says "up to", meaning much of that is likely incentives he can reach, some of which will be unlikely unless he regains his previous form.

I did not watch him last season, so I have no idea how he did. But I just went to the Rams forum to read comments about how he did last season and they are not good.

These are comments made DURING the season:

Interestingly enough...the Bills still have a $4.1 million dead cap charge on the books for White next year from his prior release...does this somehow go away or get factored in since he is now back here?  I don't know if I have ever seen this happen before.

Douglas has a far a better chance of doing that than does white.

Nope.

It stays.

We owe his dead cap + his new cap.

While you're at it, bring back Leslie. This D hasn't been as good since he was pushed out.

Been the same in the playoffs against KC, which is to say it's sucked. That's all that matters.
