BananaB Posted Friday at 05:23 AM Posted Friday at 05:23 AM (edited) Nothing changing in Buffalo. I like Tre, love what he did for Buffalo but the Billls gotta stop bringing back old players that can’t hold a job around the league. Edited Friday at 05:23 AM by BananaB Quote

Of the 3 you make mention directly: 1. Gilmore is better. Sure. But it takes two to make a deal. Does he ever want to be back in Buffalo? We saw how he acted when drafted here and how elated he was to leave. I don't think he would come back. 2. Samuel Jr has the neck and shoulder issues. How serious are those? Being a good young player like him is still available this later in FA...I'd guess that those that have access to his medicals don't see him as a wise investment. And he is not an eager tackler which makes him a poor fit. 3. Douglas isn't better at this stage IMO. Same level as White was mid last season. I would say unless there was an injury hampering Douglas we don't know about, there may be more upside with White now being 2 years removed from serious injury as a bounce back candidate than Douglas who just seemed to forget how to play football at times. I still see the Bills grabbing a CB early. But now this move makes it less necessary to overreach for one that's a bad fit or may need some time to catch on. If it prevents another Elam situation...then that's money well spent in the grandee scheme of things. I respect your opinion and the Gilmore and Samuel Jr. points are completely reasonable and maybe even likely. I'd still take Douglas over White though even though his play dropped off a little at the end of last year. I do still prefer a CB first round that can start on the outside opposite Benford right away. Douglas might be looking for more money and/or assurance that he's a starter though. I wish we were privy to that information because I hate guessing. There's also the option of trading for a CB after the draft that would upgrade the spot which is pry off the table now with the White signing. I just think if White wasn't a former Buffalo Bill we'd be looking at this signing in a similar light as if Bradberry signed here. Maybe even worse considering his play last year was poorly for the most part after the ACL and Achilles injuries. Even being 75% version of his previous self is pry optimistic given those two devastating injuries. 4 Quote
biggerdaddynj Posted Friday at 06:18 AM Posted Friday at 06:18 AM To help narrow down the real money, Spotrac has his market value as follows: 1 years, $1,364,649 (rounded up to to $1.4M). NFL Rank:1018 CB Rank:102 Think that answers the question about what the Bills expect from him and will certainly fool no other teams about the importance of Beane drafting a CB before the run starts on the second tier (as opposed to DT where we’ll be much safer when the run for the second tier of quality players commences and they’re very good players). 1 2 Quote
Nephilim17 Posted Friday at 06:53 AM Posted Friday at 06:53 AM Not thrilled but I suppose it's relatively cheap insurance. I don't expect Tre to start if we draft a CB in the first couple rounds (which I expect) but if he's making $2 million before hitting incentives it's not a big deal. 1 Quote

I'm okay with it. I assume the incentives falls under the "not likely to be earned" category making the contract look good for a former all pro. Maybe the Bills brass said if you're the first man to walk on Mars your $2.5m salary will jump to $6.8m. Quote

It is just such a weird move to sign a former franchise cornerstone turned JAG, to apparently have him compete for a backup role with Dane Jackson? I can't make heads or tails of it. To be fair to Tre, he looked cooked when he came back from the ACL and the following season looked like he was back to form. Maybe he needed the extra year for the Achilles. As some have said, if he's even 80-90% old Tre White this is an awesome signing. At worst, we know he's a team player. Quote
Chandler#81 Posted Friday at 08:50 AM Posted Friday at 08:50 AM Bad timing. No re-establishing the Goalie Academy now as the Sabres are on the golf course today. 1 2 Quote
machine gun kelly Posted Friday at 09:34 AM Posted Friday at 09:34 AM I know it’s just depth, but he’s not the same guy at all. Maybe as some mentioned, get lucky and he mentors a draft pick. Teach him the McD way. Quote

It’s funny people continue to say that they don’t expect him to start but one of McDs biggest priorities is knowing the playbook and no rookie or other vet coming in is gonna know it better then Tre…. Did anyone of you think Klien would start a playoff game? Did anyone think Hamlin would start over Bishop last year? I fully expect Tre to be opposite Benford, it’s the way the Biils roll. White was traded by LA because he could no longer cover and were bringing him on a high price tag to be a mentor. This is why we can't get over the hump, it's these types od signings by Beane. Quote
eball Posted Friday at 10:27 AM Posted Friday at 10:27 AM This is simply a feel-good move all the way around. I don’t think anyone is counting on Tre to be a difference-maker on the field but he knows this defense and is such a great freaking guy that I can’t help but love it. He can be an asset to young guys and perhaps, just perhaps, his injury woes are behind him and he can be a gameday contributor as well. I don’t think Beane is an overly sentimental guy so he and McD must think Tre still has something to offer. I don’t think his signing changes anything about how the Bills address the draft. Quote

Magox Posted Friday at 10:32 AM Posted Friday at 10:32 AM I think Tre will surprise to the upside. I don't believe he'll ever be what he was but I thought he played well down the stretch with the Ravens. He'll struggle against speedsters on vertical routes but he looked good against pretty much everything else. He'll provide depth and find himself on the field on some of the formations. 2 Quote

Maybe they have their sights on Starks or Emmanwori as maybe a get at 30. Maybe they think either could spell TJ at nickel or use either in a dime. I think we'll see some tweaks after the AFCCG. I just wish Tre the best and hope he hangs up his cleats in Buffalo. Quote

SoonerBillsFan Posted Friday at 11:25 AM Posted Friday at 11:25 AM (edited) So much bashing for this signing. Tre was much better in Baltimore than LA. He knows our system as well as anyone, who better to teach a rookie? Is he a pro bowl,#1, top 10-15 CB any longer? No, but he can be a solid contributer. He is an upgrade to what we had in Douglass last year and what was on our roster until he signed. We will still take a CB in the draft so relax negative Nancy's.
