Maybe Beane genuinely thinks he can recover back to some of his old self again? But the last time we saw him he was getting beat cleanly by Keon Coleman and having to grab him to prevent a big completion. Not exactly a great lasting impression.

I kind of love it. He did look bad with the Rams but actually looked quite good with the Ravens from November on. Worth the risk that 2 years from the injuries he can get somewhat close too what he used to be.

 

I wonder if this signing has anything to do with how bad UPL played for the Sabres this year

Meh. he got a contract that I suspect is full of a ton of incetives. He was dumped by the team that signed him for a 7th round pick swap.   The reality is that Tre is a depth guy now. I think he knows that.

 

Certainly he played his best ball in Buffalo. He's part insurance part "maybe he regains some form".  Nothing more. This doesn't impact the draft at all imo.

If you look at White's advanced defense stats he started the year off in LA with three bad games but then was fairly solid the rest of the season.  He's further removed from injury and younger than Bradbury.  Trying to be positive.  I always liked White hopefully he has something left.

I thought it was more likely the Bills would bring back Douglas as their veteran starting option at corner but Tre while a surprise isn't that shocking. Tre is a bit younger and while he's got an injury history he's gonna be close to two years removed from injury. Tre looked a lot better with the Ravens according to their fans and pundit so while he flamed out with the Rams he ended the season strong.

If Tre is CB2 we are in deep deep trouble. It would be worse than Douglas. There is probably very little guaranteed money in this signing. This should have ZERO impact on the Bills CB plans in the draft

This is like Hyde being on the roster last season. I love Tre. I didn't like seeing him in another jersey. But I don't see him doing anything on the field this season.

The upside is a quality cheap backup who knows your system and is loved by the locker room. A guy who can mentor a young guy or two. His deal is likely between 3-4 million not including escalators

Reading the headline, I had 2 initial takes:

1. A one day contract to retire as a Bill

2. Maybe he signed with the Sabres...he's as good as their other goalies

This is perennial Beane at work. Always filling in need positions before the draft. Always in position to go BPA. I just mentioned the other day in the Bradberry thread that if their looking at him why not look at Tre? He's younger, a fan fav and farther removed from injury.

What I remember about White last year was him getting a DPI call (for Baltimore) while covering a Bills receiver, Coleman I think.  But that was a bad call, happy for the Bills but that wasn't DPI.  And that's the only time White's name was mentioned.  And that's a good thing.  Usually when a CB gets mentioned it's while he's chasing a receiver who beat him.  That didn't happen to White in that game.  So who knows, maybe he's got enough game to help the team win.  Plus there's the locker room factor.  The other players loved having him around, keeping things fun.  Plus it was so sad when he was injured in his last game as a Bill (v.1), knowing that at least at that point it was his last chance for a ring with the team that drafted him.
