I kept saying all offseason last year that Miami wasn't going to make the playoffs and I didn't think him or the GM would survive the season.  But he got a lucky break getting that extension just before the season started which I then said would maybe be the one thing that saves him this offseason after they miss the playoffs, but he won't survive missing them again next year.  

 

And I stand by that still...I again don't think Miami makes the playoffs this year, and I think this regime, top to bottom, will be cleared out.

No one at any Ivy is on an academic scholarship.  All scholarship is need based.   It doesn't matter how good at football, squash, lacrosse, etc. you are.  If you or your parents can afford the full tuition you will pay it.

But what about the people who can't pay tuition 

 

And they're there because they're a three-star football / basketball player with a 4.0 GPA from Gary Indiana 

 

And they want to play in the ivy League not ball st

 

Yale beat Baylor in the NCAA tournament a few years ago... They certainly get good players .. and not all of their parents can pay for Yale or Harvard 

 

They have ways around it

Sure the flip side of that coin is you can be 3rd string, walk on, or no athlete.  If you folks make less than 100K (200K at Harvard no) you will not pay a cent.  I'm just pointing out that the Ivy League does not in fact provide any athletic scholarships.

Harvard typically does get a good amount of kids trying to walk on... I don't know about the  rest of the ivy league but it's all division one football 

 

 

 

 

Technically, every student in the Ivy League is a walk-on since they don't have athletic scholarships, and it's barely Division I because they aren't eligible for bowl games.

The parsing of what a D1 football player is a bit absurd.   He made it as a “coach” may fall into the “he made the squad despite being a lesser talent” territory, true.  But, he made the squad.    I’m no fan as a head coach, but McDaniel was a D1 walk on.  That’s impressive.  As far as player respect for football accomplishment goes, it exceeds that of most coaches.

Yeah, this reminds me of the McD articles. It seems like a smear campaign, and many of us just want to believe it. This board is very intrigued by McDaniel for some reason. I think he’s a good coach, but Miami will never be good enough with Josh Allen in the division regardless. You’d think Bills fans would understand our current team has the ability to make opponents look bad. Miami just wants to chase him out because the city/fanbase believe they should be competing for titles.

Good for him for making the team or whatever, but you're acting like he walked on at Ohio State.
