Farewell Old Friend...29 Years Ago Today The Sabres Close Out The Aud

Was anybody at this game?  I had only been to a couple games at the Aud when I was really young and got more into the Sabres starting the next year but one of my childhood best friends was there and had a poster commemorating it hanging in his room for a bit which I always thought was cool.  

 

It blows my mind the Sabres have been playing in the current arena now longer than they played at the Aud

I did not attend that game, but attended several games down the stretch that year.  My last time in the aud was when they unveiled the goat uniforms and like 19K people showed up.

I was always able to land tickets in that 4 row section (section 1) in the Oranges directly behind the net that the Sabres shot at twice. Best tix in the house when you add in the price.

I was working a temp job for the Sabres, and watched the game from the Zamboni entrance. After the game, the likes of Luce, Playfair, Ramsay, handed to me and a couple of others the banners that were lowered from the rafters. What no one knew about, is that those banners were attached to solid lead pipes. Heavy as all get out. I nearly tripped Sean Burke as he was coming out of the Whalers dressing room. He laughed and said no big deal.
