Down to 2 scholarship QBs. Sounds crazy to be talking about college kids like this but he’s not worth as much as he’s asking for. But then you see QBs right out of HS getting 10 mill like the Michigan kid.

This is just greed imo. I read the story that said he started getting payments in HS. During the life of his college career, he was going to get around $10M. He's decent, but he's not great or anything. That's a lot of money for a decent college QB.

He certainly is a Young quarterback who hasn't reached his potential yet

BUT BUT

What I find really funny is how this site has had a love affair with Joe Milton.. like tons of people think he's a steal and the Patriots messed up lol

Yet he played college football for 6 years.. and his best season at Tennessee is like Nico's second year stats lol

That just shows you how they are as prospects still.. Nico did what it took Milton 6 years to do

Players definitely deserve to get paid (college football is a pro sport in a lot of places) but they have to fix this. This guy was very mid to be acting like this.

This is every thing that is wrong with D1 sports now.  The "student athletes"  are getting paid to go to College FFS, and the education part really shows LOL

I hear you but the flip side is you have coaches getting paid millions along with the schools getting money.

a guy like Marcus Lattimore a stud at South Carolina blows out his knee and never has a nfl career. He shouldn’t get any more while millions are being made?

Then create a 2 year league to play in  and skip the "Student Athlete" farce

Agree.  Just take the degree away and call it what it is.  Minor league football.

This was such an interesting story to follow. It started with Dan Lanning “turning him in” and everyone “holding the line.” I haven’t seen the number yet from UCLA but heard it’s significantly less than the $4M he was looking for. This will be an interesting lesson for future transfers. If he signed for less than he was getting from the Vols it’ll be really crazy.

Most 18-year-old kids need more than 2 years of development.. that's why they have 5 years of being eligible

Not to mention the world-class facilities that the division 1 schools have.. like Alabama's facilities are better than any NFL's

That's also a big reason to go to a major division 1 School.. their facilities and ability to develop you is better than any other option.. the 2-year League won't have the same facilities or money

Alabama spent $113 million on their football program last year

I mean it’s been like that forever. Except the players bringing in millions/ billions were getting a dime. Imagine how much money Cam, Tebow, and Manziel (he’s a tool but still) lost out on jersey/ merch while getting millions for their schools and coaches.

obviously, they need to fix the system but it’s blows my mind how many people take the side of schools/ teams instead of the players who put their bodies on the line (I would bet a lot of people who claim they are capitalists too “except in certain cases”).

as someone who only got 4 years, I’m jealous of guys who get like 6 years. But we are going to see guys who had no chance to play in the pros, especially qbs (Bo Nix was garbage but got so many starts he was pro ready) since the nfl never developed a minor league system. And that will only help the nfl.

I think RBs should be draft eligible right away. They lose out the more hits they take (college teams will run a guy into the ground) and RBs might be the easiest position to go pro in.

Greed got him but it’s still $1.75 to play qb for a guy who may never be a nfl qb.

Between the transfer portal and the stupid Conference changes (Cal and Stanford in the ACC) I've gotten to the point that college football doesn't interest me anymore until March.

I was with you but this should have happened a long time ago with the money they make.

as a Buffalo kid, I’ve never cared as much about college as the pros. But it’s the second biggest American sports league. If they can put a limit on transfers and NIL, things will settle down.

No doubt. It’s just wild that he was already getting $2M from Tennessee.

For sure that's not a bad take

Running backs, especially the physically developed ones... Might be ready for the NFL quicker than say an offensive tackle

The only problem with that is if you let the running backs leave after 2 years.. then the wide receivers and linebackers and defensive ends will also think they only need to stay two years

Then you're getting a bunch of underdeveloped football players into the NFL

Yeah, that’s probably true. As someone who is firmly on Cook’s side (not for $15 mil but he earned an extension), RBs just get destroyed bu football. Hard to shake Marcus Lattimore. Bit you’re right, it would never work.

I agree. He looks bad and definitely overvalued how valuable he was.

I will say in a weird way if he plays well at UCLA (school I wish I went to), it might be better for his nfl future over Tennessee and their system.

Ofc rbs in college are undervalued and overused

I played college rb and am beat up till this day .. I have concussion problems and knee problems

Marcus lattimore was one of my favorite and it's said
