Fleezoid Posted Friday at 04:35 PM Posted Friday at 04:35 PM (edited) https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5244405-trump-pushes-daylight-saving/ This is different than what a couple states do which is opt out of daylight savings time, which is allowed. But staying on daylights savings is federally prohibited. This is something Florida has been pushing for, for years. My guess is it's largely due to tourism. In the winter, if you want to grab dinner, have a drink and watch the sun set on the West coast, you have to get the Early Bird Special. At least this would give you an extra hour in morning on the East coast and an extra hour on the West coast in the evening. Edited Saturday at 04:31 PM by Fleezoid 1 Quote

PastaJoe Posted Friday at 06:00 PM Posted Friday at 06:00 PM Having kids standing in the dark in the winter waiting for buses or walking to school isn’t worth it. 5 1 Quote
UConn James Posted Friday at 06:23 PM Posted Friday at 06:23 PM Been in favor of this for a long time. Many benefits wrt energy usage and health, few drawbacks. If people have an issue with kids & buses, look at changing school start time. It passed unanimously in a full Senate vote a couple of years ago and then never got taken up in the House. 2 1 3 Quote

Simon Posted Friday at 06:42 PM Posted Friday at 06:42 PM DST should have been made permanent decades ago. 41 minutes ago, PastaJoe said: Having kids standing in the dark in the winter waiting for buses or walking to school isn’t worth it. There are a number of school districts who have eliminated buses, and school might mandate that parents drive their kids to school to eliminate walking in the dark. I am 1000% of Daylight Savings Time being permanent. 1 1 Quote
ExiledInIllinois Posted Friday at 08:06 PM Posted Friday at 08:06 PM Never will happen DST will harm people! Really bad for northern latitudes, let alone people's health. Make it permanent STANDARD Time. It's NOT called "standard" without a reason! 1 hour ago, UConn James said: Been in favor of this for a long time. They try to sneak it through. It's really bad for your health DST. Even Cruz now gave up on it. They will end DST: https://www.foxnews.com/politics/stop-clock-gop-dems-come-together-end-daylight-saving-over-health-economic-risks Quote

Just go back to tried and true. Farmers & railroads we're wrong. We all need to retire at night earlier anyway. Arizona & Hawaii get it. Too damn hot in summer anyway. 3 hours ago, Fleezoid said: https://thehill.com/homenews/administration/5244405-trump-pushes-daylight-saving/ This is different than what a couple states do which is opt out of daylight savings time, which is allowed. Now problem, deadly skin in game for them. I have been on shiftwork for over 35 years... Why don't they just put the final bullet in my head. LoL... Get in line fellas!😉😜 Quote
ExiledInIllinois Posted Friday at 08:26 PM Posted Friday at 08:26 PM Yeah... Sunrise at 9am in morning just west of the time zone for northern latitudes in winter... No thank you. Seattle & Duluth won't be happy with an unGodly sunrise time of 9am in winter. 😆 Accidents going to work. 1 Quote

When you're out at a picnic, baseball or softball game, folks are out sitting in the sun soaking it up. In the South, most folks avoid the sun like vampires. Anyone working outside is completely covered head to toe. faces covered too. I see almost as many umbrellas on sunny days as I do on rainy days. Canopies are a must at afternoon little league games. Not saying one or the other is better. It's just the way it is with so much sun all year round in the South and so many overcast days in the North. 1 Quote
WotAGuy Posted Friday at 08:44 PM Posted Friday at 08:44 PM The problem is the Earth’s axis tips; they need to put a big-ass come along on the moon, run a line there, and straighten us out. That will be easier than getting Congress to agree to do anything. 2 Quote
Just Jack Posted Friday at 08:49 PM Posted Friday at 08:49 PM Just go back to the way it was, where every city sets their clocks by when the sun is directly overhead at noon. 1 Quote

Augie Posted Friday at 09:22 PM Posted Friday at 09:22 PM Can Congress just vote in an extra hour of sunlight in the morning, and then another in the evening? I’d vote for something like that. 😊 I use too many emoji’s and I know it, but sometimes it’s helpful to head things off. 3 Quote

Pick the west side for more morning light, east side for evening light. Simple... But honestly... DST in winter is horrible the further north latitude (or south if Southern Hemisphere does it) you go. But... We got it easy, just imagine Ramadan @ the Arctic Circle in the month of December... Those guys got it rough!😆🤣 Edited Friday at 11:12 PM by ExiledInIllinois Quote

The border itself was the time zone line. But also, for some reason, the city where the site was, observed the time zone of the state where our hotel was. So we’d go from one time zone, into another, then into another, driving back and forth to work. 1 Quote
AlCowlingsTaxiService Posted Saturday at 12:37 AM Posted Saturday at 12:37 AM For a time I owned a delivery business and was on the road in a large truck by 6am …. Driving dark roads in the winter was never the most fun activity, and having to wait until 830a for the sunrise was a definite no from me. 2 Quote
