Colts release kicker Matt Gay

Just never pay a kicker. The difference between an average kicker and bad kicker is minuscule. Top guys are a different story. Bass is average and is being payed like a top guy.

na, he seems to have hit the wall harder than Bass.  I'd go with drafting a kicker.  Although kickers are weird, perhaps his next team Gay regains form.  Hoping that Bass does, but would bring in a UDFA for competition.

Perhaps you haven't heard the news that Bass is all the way back.

Post June 1 cut, Bass saves about 4 million.

He's the 8th highest, but most of the 7 ahead of him have contracts that expire further down the road than him and many of the names behind him in pay have contracts expiring sooner than him.  Meaning many of the players behind him will pass him when they get new deals and Bass will drop down the pay rankings soon..   Overall, maybe he's overpaid by a small amount, but at the time he signed the new contract he was Bass-O-Matic and was a good valued contact.  After that yes he had a bad year, but did seem to correct himself by season end.

Matt Gay: 18/31 on field goals of 50+ yards the last three seasons.  That is 58%.

 

Tyler Bass:  10/13 on field goals of 50+ yards the last three seasons.  That is 85%.

 

As illogical fans were calling for Bass's head the last few years, Gay would likely need a full  time security detail weeks into his tenure in Buffalo.

 

But I am looking forward to reading this thread to see if the crazy Bass hate is still on!

Bass’s career field goal made percentage is 84.5%. Gay’s is 85.5%. Gay was really good with the Rams over 92%. They are both extremely average. Bass does not deserve the contract he has. Gay did deserve the contract he got when he signed it. He is not worth that anymore. 
 

Point being, unless you have an elite kicker, don’t bother paying one. 85% FG percentage is dime a dozen stuff. 
 

I know people get emotional about players. The Bills should be looking for an upgrade at the position. He’s a dime a dozen kicker.
