But

Rochester has good pizza not gonna lie

Agree. But why show a pic of Buffalo pizza with no cup and char pepp on top? That’s why the article is suspect.

Just like the OP is suspect….

However, to your point, they used stock photos and not the real deal.

As a lifelong Rochester resident I can say we have a lot of great Pizza.

Had a friend who moved to Phoenix a long time ago, he moved back six months later. When asked why he'd return to Rochester from Arizona his only response was "I'm Italian and the Pizza in Arizona sucks" ... He said it had something to do with the water.

With as many good Pizza places we have within a mile or two I find we make our own as often as we buy. Cup n char, Ital sausage and sweet peppers for me.

I'm biased because I grew up in Rochester, but...

...so far as I can tell, Rochester DOES have better pizza than Buffalo!

Y'all got everyone beat on wings, beef on weck, pizza logs. But pizza? I'm sorry. Give me Rochester. Miss me with that too-thick crust and overly sweet sauce :nana:

When I was a kid, Pontillos was the gold standard in Rochester, Anna's in Stutson Bridge Plaza was good, and there was a good joint on Dewey just south of the cemetery...the name escapes me.

I love the stock photos.....but this is a dumb list with a dumber methodology and the website may have given me herpes.

This year, Clever Real Estate evaluated 100 of America’s largest cities on factors including:

The number of pizza restaurants per capita.

The average price of large cheese and pepperoni pizzas on thousands of pizzeria menus (and how they compare to local incomes).

Clever’s Pizza Passion Score, which reflects Google searches related to pizza in various markets.

A city’s perceived pizza quality, as measured by a poll of 2,000 Americans.

After crunching the numbers, a new champion came out on top as the best pizza city in the United States for 2025.

Rochester, New York, secured its spot as the Pizza Capital of America as a result of one of the highest Pizza Passion Scores (98 out of 100), a high number of pizza restaurants per capita (25 per 100,000 residents), and high average Yelp ratings for pizzerias (4.11 out of 5).

Pontillo's was also the creme de la creme when I was a kid. Nothing more exciting than a Pontillo's sheet pizza and a dozen wings showing up at your front door...back in the day when pizza places actually had delivery drivers rather than outsourcing to DoorDash, GrubHub, etc.

I think SOME of the Pontillo's locations still make great pies these days. Not all of them. Quality varies from location to location.

Like @Logic said, I too am partial to my home grown pizza in the ROC. Now living in Buffalo, there are a few we frequent such as Bocce’s, Macy’s, LaPortas. These are entirely different than my many years eating Marks, Pizza Corner and Pontilos.

Shout out to LaFamigia in Greece as well.

P.S. I would also like to add, I find no shame in the occasional Dominos or Papa John’s visit. They serve a purpose from time to time.

Bushnells Basin Pontillos is the best, that and J & L's in Fairport are my faves.

Have you had any of the crazy varieties of Macy's Pizza? You know the ones. Because I gotta tell ya, I see them on social media from time to time and I have never wanted to eat anything more in my life.

But do they just LOOK good, or are they ACTUALLY good?

Pontillo’s had a place in Sarasota, FL when we lived there. Once I found that it was my go to for pizza and wings. They had pictures on the wall of the locations up north….mostly covered in snow. I don’t know if that was intentional to make you feel better about where you were?  Regardless, it worked.

Sadly, I think he may have retired and I think it’s closed.

I live next to Macy's so I've had them plenty of times over 20 years

the gimmick pizzas are really just that a gimmick... I honestly don't go there anymore except for chicken wings which they do do very well

Most of that pizza stuff is all a gimmick and I've tried it a couple times with some friends and it was gross

Some of the stuff he does like putting bone-in chicken wings on pizza is a crime lol

If I'm not mistaken, Pontillo's started in Batavia.
