And the big name people on the board may not want to hear it but he isn't significantly better than either Rapp or Hamlin at this point in his career.

I wouldn't mind signing him to a 1-year deal. But if he is looking for anything longer than that then forget it. I expect the Bills will address this need in the draft.

How big of a prayer in your assessment? We talking hail Mary? We talking a few lines of the rosary? An our father?

I think Bishop has potential to be a depth player and if anyone can get him to be more it is our secondary coaching since he seemed to lack awareness and discipline in the scheme vs bad athleticism. Granted, he didn't look speedy out there and lacked some spacial awareness, game time instincts, and the processing of the game - I still think he can be a quality backup a few years as a floor.

Ha! I mean he was awful last year. I think he needs a HUGE step forward in 2025 to win a starting job. It is possible. He missed an entire camp and that hurts a rookie. I just am a little sceptical whether it is likely. So I don't know where that falls on the Hail Mary - Our Father continuum.... but I suspect upper range?

I would prefer Julian Blackmon. Can play either spot and will turn 27 in August. He could end up being a very good FS.

Maybe the reason the Colts haven't signed him back yet is because they have a great shot at Starks or Emmanwori.

Yeah, he didn't look great last year in Atlanta. But isn't this exactly the kind of guy Howie Roseman goes out and signs to a cheap deal only to see him bounce back and play at an All-Pro level for a year or two? No risk it, no biscuit.

If he's open to a contract without much guaranteed cash, bring him on.

I would love to shape him to be the poyer big safety style/little linebacker that we thought Lewis Cine might become one day. It has its special place in our scheme even only used 15-20% of the time. A skillset like that with quality can be a great addition on dime packages against teams with 2 good TE's or the ability to shift into run.

They also signed Cam Bynum. I think they have moved on. I'd be very happy with Blackmon.

I think it's more Simmons wants to beat the Chiefs and sees the Bills of one of the few teams in the league that can do it. As we've seen it in the regular season and been pretty close in last few post seasons and might be a play(er) or two away from doing it. I'm all for bringing him on a cap friendly deal less than $3 million a season.

Wasn't very good last, we have some young guys with athleticism that need to play early in year to get some of the bumps out before playoffs

How is Blackmon still a UFA

Would have preferred Simmons to re-signing Hamlin, but that ship has sailed. Bills are probably comfortable with the S room. 4 guys with starting experience.

Unless they're really not encouraged by Bishop's rookie year.

1 year deal for him would be ideal due to injury concerns / tackling

sign Simmons and Asante to 1 year deals,   draft CB and S in Rounds 4-6

Would be a good move if he’s willing to give a good deal $. Use the top 3 picks in the draft for CB, DT and WR/DE.

Rapp/Simmons

Forest/Bishop

Would be really good 4 safeties.

I hear what you're saying but Simmons was sitting their for the taking last year as a free agent all the way until mid August before signing with the Falcons.  There were no reports the Bills were interested so I don't see why they would be now.

I think it depends on the draft.  They need some upgrades on the defensive line even with 3 FA's added, and there's a huge hole at cornerback.  However at pick 30.. the 1st round talent at DT and CB could be dried up.  If Starks or Emmanwori is there at 30, and the guys you liked at the other spots are gone - it has to be at least in consideration.  It's more of a trust your chart exercise, if those two guys are sticking out at the top, even if its not a major need, you do need to continue to accumulate talent and its not a position that is totally finalized imo.

If after the draft the depth chart is as it stands today?  I don't see the harm in trying to fit him in under the cap to push to start at FS.
