Clements didn't earn consideration in this all-time team conversation, but he had 2 or 3 REALLY strong seasons with the Bills, and while he benefitted early from having Winfield on the other side, eventually he became a lockdown guy who would even occasionally "travel" with #1WRs. During the first half of the drought, the Bills did a nice job of transitioning from Winfield+Clements to Clements+McGee. For whatever that's worth.

Winfield, pound for pound was probably the best tackler I have ever seen. Very good corner as well.

 

As many called out, Odoms probably did it the best for the longest time. If I recall wasn’t he one of the first Free Agent casualties we had?

 

Clements was a very good cover corner and also very physical. His hit on Brady is an all timer. 
 

McGee was one of the best return guys I have ever seen and just made big plays. 

These are the guys from the time I have been watching. I think all 4 offered something unique and it would be hard to rate one higher than the rest.

Who here remembers that Peters came up as a 320 lb. tight end and the Bills picked him up as a UDFA. He was primarily a special teams player until he converted to OT and beat out the lamentable Mike Williams for the starting RT position (eventually moving to LT). Kudos to Buffalo's (usually-lamentable) front office and (no less lamentable) coaching staff for this one. By the time it's over he'll have gone from UDFA and the practice squad to Canton. 

 

EDIT: Buffalo's lamentable front office returned to form and wasn't willing to pay Peters.  Eventually he was traded to Philly for a first round pick.  While we were unhappy for years thinking that this stud should have finished his career with the Bills, we were very happy with the player we got with that first round pick - Eric Wood.  Think about it: a UDFA turned into Peters and Wood who were mainstays of the OL from 2004 to 2017.

Butch Byrd had 40 Interceptions in only 123 games played returning 5 for TDs.  He was a huge player for the times at the CB position as he was 6'0" and 211 lbs.  

 

He was also the Bills primary punt returner for 3 seasons.  He made 5 Pro Bowl games and was First team All Pro for 3 of his 7 seasons in BUF.  Robert James was also tremendous but had an injury shortened career.  So my pick is Byrd.

I know he left on bad terms(signed with the Pats),but Stephon Gilmore was a pretty good corner for the Bills while he was here.

.Saw Byrd and James, Booker and a few others.

James was the best corner I ever saw.

As a fan, on passing downs, you could eliminate watching routes on the side of the field he was playing,  because the simply would not throw there.

He was a physical force in a time it was, somewhat, allowed.

 

Simply the best.

While not the best, Mickey Washington, Marlon Kerner and Ken Irvin had some exciting but short stints with the Bills. Definitely among my favorites at the position
