And McGovern is one of those players, just like Morse, who may be cut free a year or two before his career is done. So if he gets an extension this year, I'd guess that he doesn't play out the full contract with the Bills.

Agreed, but he did a dang good job at center last year.  Josh trusts him and having stability at Center is crucial imho.

I hope so. It seems like I say this every year, but Beane needs to hit a HR in this draft. We have had to many disappointing performances by the defense over the years in the playoffs. Let's hope that changes in 2025.

That's because Beane's drafts are usually singles/doubles instead of homeruns.

My worry is that he's once again really backed himself into a corner (pun intended) at the CB and WR positions.  This appears to be an extremely weak year for both.  Meanwhile, the D-Line is loaded this year at both edge rusher and tackle.  It would be a great year to load up on the front.  But sitting at #30, I could unfortunately see us getting desperate, trading up to fill needs, reaching for value, and then settling for left-overs on the DL on Day 3.

Beane should just do the honorable thing and resign in disgrace… or commit harakiri.

Does this signal that they don't view SVPG as the future at center?

He has a long road to crack the starting center job anyways

15 years ago when the bills were awful sure we can draft a fifth round pick or a six-round pick and we had to play him because we were bad...

He's probably third at the center cracking order rn behind McGovern and I think Alec Anderson gets a crack there first of McGovern isn't re-signed

I'd think not, they have always had a back up at the center position on the team and given Kromer's experience one might think that they are getting him ready like McGovern to play to play multiple positions going forward and incase of injury he would be a great depth player to have around .

He doesn't have the length to be a guard.. svgp

Alec Anderson who is the most valuable sixth offensive lineman in the NFL last year is the guy getting groomed everywhere.. he has played center guard and tackle

And certainly is going to be given a shot at center if we don't re sign McGovern

That's my prediction

That’s a very solid take.

What effect will the sweeping tariffs imposed by the current administration have on global economies?

Also, what numbers should I play in Wednesday’s Powerball drawing?

Thanks!

My guess is we extend Connor, and Anderson replaces Edwards after this year.

Sure, but the assumption is that VPG will grow into a quality starter himself.  It's that kind of building that Beane wants to do, the younger guy grows into the replacement before you need him.  If the Bills extend McGovern without a plan to release him, then it means that they think VPG can't be what they hoped.

I think in Beane's perfect world, VPG forces McGovern out of Buffalo.  If that doesn't happen, it means Beane is looking, again, for a center in the free agent market.

It's Seppuku.

The fact they are talking extension doesn't send a strong signal VPG is on track.

He was voted by me as my most underrated Bills player in another thread.

An amazing find by Beane and he is only 27. Definitely a player who will be one of the cornerstones of the Line for years to come. Love what he’s done for the running game. Doesn’t seem one dimensional either as the Bills allowed only 8 sacks for the entire year. The O-Line gave Josh the time and rushing attack to propel him to a much deserved MVP award. IDC who you are, no player can do everything alone.

Maybe trying to make a deal with either McGovern or Edwards.  Whichever signs first is here long term, other is gone after this year and then move SVPG into starting role??

But If I said Seppuku, very few people would know what I’m talking about… and it’s my bad joke (dagnabit).

In all seriousness, when we signed MCGovern there were numerous people here  saying that we signed the wrong Connor McGovern.

Don't get me wrong.  Brandon Beane is still a Top 5 GM in the NFL.

It's just that he's significantly lower than the top guys Howie Roseman and Brett Veach.  I think he's also a tier below Eric DeCosta and Les Snead.

Just like if you were to say Jalen Hurts is a Top 5 QB in the NFL (which is reasonable).

He's still quite a bit below the top guys in Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen.

As I've said many times about Beane.  I like him.  I don't want to see him fired.  But I do think he's gotten too comfortable and conservative.

He needs to be more aggressive, and he needs to break a little from his normal draft routine.

You keep them both.  Bills O line is best it has been overall in a rather long time !

Well then, at the very least he should cut off his own thumb.

I don't get what people are hoping for out of a fifth round short-armed center

We literally have a better one right now... Svgp is squarely a guy who needed development

Why is everybody so eager to throw a fifth round pick out there to play when we have better people on the line

Our center is bigger stronger, longer, has NFL experience.. like I wouldn't be trying to get rid of him... And as I said Alec Anderson has played C, G and T .. was the most valuable sixth offensive lineman last year in the NFL

He's getting a crack at C or G before svgp rn

It's the same reason these dingwings would pick the mystery box over $100,000.  The Mystery Box could be anything! It could even be $100,000!
