Alphadawg7 Posted April 8 Posted April 8 This guy seems to be in need of a place where you can go to be your best self. I just happen to know of a place... All kidding aside, it feels like a low risk, high reward type player. This is a guy who still has upside but has let his mistake take his opportunities away. I have full confidence in McD and this staff to either get this kid back on the right path or cut him if he just isn't reachable or getting there. We need CB help...the talent is there with this kid to where if he can get out of his own way and let the coaches do their job, he could really be a value given I seriously doubt this kid is gonna get offered much by any team at this point. His best offer is likely gonna be a 1 year prove it deal regardless who gives it to him. So I am all for kicking the tires on a cheap deal and see how serious this kid is about football. If he is, he would take a deal here where we have the competition available and on a team expected to contend for a SB. A bounce back year here can set this kid up moving forward either here or some place else. If he balks at that, then who cares, let him be someone elses problem. If he takes that opportunity and squanders it...then bye felicia, easy cut. But if he does the right things, he could be a steal 2 1 Quote

It's not an "easy cut" if he makes the team and we're relying on him and he does something like, I don't know, brings loaded guns to the airport or misses curfew with the team and we have to move on mid season from someone we were counting on. The guy did criminal acts five years apart. Then showed continued immaturity with things like staying out past curfew the night before a game and even pranking a child, literally playing the Grinch on Christmas Day. These aren't little things or a young guy making a single mistake. It's a character concern ledger dripping red and showing a sustained pattern over years. The Raiders, who already lost a CB in FA and have less than we do at the position got rid of him while he was still on his cheap Rookie deal. I don't think this is the type of guy the Bills would want to take on even if he were a Superstar. And he's far from that. Edited April 8 by BillsFanForever19 1 Quote
Rocky Landing Posted April 8 Posted April 8 I recall Jack Jones, while being unquestionably athletic, having poor situational awareness, and a penchant for utterly stupid plays-- like making an interception in the end zone, and running it out to the one yard line, rather than taking a knee. Quote

MrEpsYtown Posted April 8 Posted April 8 Did some preliminry digging, but it does appear that the relationship between Jones and Pellegrino was not good and seems to be one of the reasons the Patriots released him. Seems like they had some arguments etc and BB decided to cut him outright. So unless Pellegrino has some weird soft spot for the guy, and BB overulled him, it seems unlikely this will happen. Maybe the guy has matured. "After allowing troubled cornerbacks Jack Jones and J.C. Jackson to play against Washington on Nov. 5, a day they missed curfew at the team hotel, Belichick left Jackson home on the Patriots’ trip to Germany. But in Frankfurt, according to a team source, Jones blew up on position coach Mike Pellegrino at halftime for not starting. Belichick cut Jones a day later." https://www.bostonherald.com/2024/01/04/inside-the-patriots-fall-to-rock-bottom-in-the-bill-belichick-era/ https://985thesportshub.com/2024/01/08/jack-jones-patriots-coach-incident-mike-pellegrino/ 1 2 Quote

He’s a guy a team that’s rebuilding could take a chance on, but too much would be riding on him for a team like the Bills. Last season we carried 4 outside CBs. Even if we carry 5 CBs this season - with Codrington the 5th as well as return duties - that doesn’t leave any room for a reclamation project. Barring injury, Benford, Jackson and Ingram will make the 53 along with a rookie. Why muddy those waters for a guy that you can’t count on and will likely cause problems and distractions? It would be a Bush League move to add someone like that. Edited April 8 by BarleyNY 1 2 Quote

He has a reputation as being totally transparent with his players and has a bubbly personality. 1 1 Quote

It’s a combination of his limited upside and character issues. It’s not like he could be a difference maker. If everything goes great, then we wind up with a solid starting CB for 2025. Then in 2026 we would be in a position where we’d have to decide between paying him as such or moving on anyway. If things don’t go well, then we could be in bad shape at CB while trying to compete for a championship. No thank you. Edited April 8 by BarleyNY 1 Quote
