Despite this, according to export data from the World Bank, the US imported US$1.4m (A$2.23m) of products from Heard Island and McDonald Islands in 2022, nearly all of which was “machinery and electrical” imports. It was not immediately clear what those goods were.

Imagine having a take such as this. Laughable at best.

Lets see:

GHWB - Two wars and total and complete economic meltdown

Obama: Meh - GOP starved any initiatives - but provided structure (developed by GOP) for healthcare

DT1: Took an economy that was already armed with low interest rates, optimized supply chain, low unemployment and funded tax cuts with debt which goosed it. Covid response totally flummoxed him because he did not want to consider that some people might know more than him.

JB: Floated stimmie checks, bought batteries and solar panels, hired gay people - but handed over a stable economy that was still the envy of the world.

DT2: FAFO

Stable economy? You lost me there. It's been 3 ish months. If it's still like this in a year, then by all means you can freak out.

I think most people in a state of panic about the tariffs are more worried about losses to their multi-million dollar stock portfolio than they are about the economy.

Thats all people need to know at the ballot box.

When did MAGA embrace Maoism anyways?

I'm not sure what you mean by both "embrace" and "Maoism". What traits of the CCP have been adopted?

So magas who voted to decrease inflation (and are getting royally screwed) were justified in their choice.  But people who worked all their lives and saved aren't entitled to outrage.  Sounds like a SOCIALIST attitude to me.  Certainly not a true Republican view.

Are you a SOCIALIST?  how bout COMMUNIST?  Certainly not a CAPiTALIST.

Bloodbath. Trump turned the markets MAGA red. The highest number of layoffs since May 2020—funny how that lines up with the last time Trump was in office

AW ! Breaks my heart that all of these companies that have been just raking in the profits for who knows how long didn't have brains enough like our gov't to put some back and now ON PAPER are losing money . I wonder if they want a little cheese with that whine ??

Just maybe if they all were a bit more fiscally responsible starting with our gov't this would be not quite as big of a story and if more of the goods that America consumes were "Made in America" things would be much better but hail to the global economists mind set !!!!! Thanks .

It is comedy watching MAGA shift it's agenda to the latest talking points defending the tariffs

Trump starts out with, the stock market will be booming and Americans will save money on day 1

Now its:

-The stock market doesn't matter

-Stop buying things

-We have to sacrifice for our financial sins

It use to probably before your time which by your statement its pretty much apparent .

Manufactures have now figure and figured into how long products should last in order for them to fail so they can continually make a profit no matter if it's a spatula or a automobile .

I was just talking with someone in law enforcement and their vehicles have had a number of their cars that reach 40K miles and the motors just come apart and then trying to get them fixed took one car a yr plus to get a motor and get it put back into service .

Oh wait I know that's a TTTT - Trump thing even though it was during the Biden era !

But I have things that were made in America that are over 40yrs old when people uses to actually GAS about how and what they did when they worked . I was actually a victim of this .

One of my careers was a mason in FL. building swimming pools and I was THE BEST mason at this company it took time to give the customer a near perfect job or at least that was what I tried to accomplish until my boss or the actual owner found out that if he hired some illegal immigrants he could get 3 times more ***** work for less money which meant more profit for him .

Long story short when my weekly pay went down because of this I left the company because greed (In the American way) was more important than quality which is why you can now make the statement that "Made in America is zero guarantee of quality" .

Then at a time before I left I was asked by my boss if I wanted to become a foremen to which I answered yes and his comment after that was "But you can't be as picky or hold the other crews to your standards" to which my answer was "Then WTF do you want me to be a foremen for if you want me to sacrifice quality" which was another Eason for me leaving in the long run .

So yes you are correct Made in America no longer means S**T but it has been pushed in that direction by greed and the bottom line, that exact thing has happened in every aspect of American life ! Schooling, manufacturing, customer service, and any other thing you can think of , Oh and by the way with your mind set thanks for your contributions to this modern day American mind set !!

But my personal actions will NEVER meet the mind set of todays America it will always be as my old man taught me, "If your going to do a job either do it right or  DON'T DO IT AT ALL " !!!!!! That use to be the America I knew ...

yes but when you spend it faster than you make it and put little or nothing back and lets say over the last what 20+ years you portfolio has done pretty much nothing but gain, gain , gain, and now your losing what is a pittance if they would have put back for such a time this wouldn't be much of a thing but common sense in life in general is all but gone . Just spend, spend, spend !!!

I've worked all my life too. But maybe I'm just a better and more informed investor, that's very well prepared for what's happening this week, than most of the people complaining about losing a few percentage points on their portfolio? And while they're panic selling and getting all emotional I'm monitoring my buy list of great qulaity companies for either entry points or adding to current positions at discounted prices.

This quote I saw nails the attitude of the "outraged" people. "Market participants have been falsely conditioned by our monetary and fiscal policy in this country to always expect comfort and never expect interruptions from the market moving higher, or the quality of life status quo that we believe we are entitled to here in the United States to suffer".

Not that I'm in the circle of trust on any trade talks in progress, but don't be surprised if there's some positive announcement or news after the bell today. Perhaps about the administration being close to an agreement with Canada and Mexico that will result in a decent rally on Monday's open. And whether its this weekend or the next or a month from now that's how this is going to work.
