AlCowlingsTaxiService Posted April 3 Posted April 3 (edited) Anyone following the UB women’s journey to the WNIT title game? I’m not a huge hoops fan, and I usually regard the NIT tournaments as the “losers bracket”, but good for them on getting this far, and playing the title game on home hardwood 👏🏽 On a related note, I’ve always believed that UB should drop their football program and put all their resources behind building a Gonzaga-type program, which I think this area would really embrace. I'm an alum and follow the Bulls. ESPN+ gets you all the games. This season for the women has been amazing. 29 wins ties their record. Chelia Watson and Nolani Cornfield are two of the most exciting players to watch. This title game, played at UB Saturday at 5, is the deepest postseason run for any local school since Bona with Bob Lanier made the NCAA final four in 1970. As for football, that actually makes money and funds the other non-revenue programs. Unless UB basketball could get into a major conference like the Big East, losing football would be suicide. Don't forget UB earns a million or more playing power conference teams. This year they open at Minnesota. But there's no reason why local folks can't pass the hat and fund the women's program. Women's basketball at UB has been very good for a long time with Becky Burke and Felicia Legette-Jack before her. You can have a nationally ranked program for less than what a men's program would take. If you live in WNY consider going to the game. Saturday 5pm at Alumni Arena. Tickets are cheap and parking is free. Otherwise the game will be televised in CBS Sports Network. Quote

The area would really embrace a winning UB football team too lol As a UB football donor I certainly don't want to lose the football program... Basketball program has had good players and some nice runs but it's not a mid major basketball powerhouse that's been good at basketball for 25 years straight The basketball program also doesn't make the school any money Edited April 3 by Buffalo716 Quote

BarleyNY Posted April 6 Posted April 6 Was there tonight. It was a great comeback win. They got hot enough at the end to make it happen. The crowd was really into it in the 4th. Crazy that we got 4 tickets, all in, for $58 total. 2 Quote
AlCowlingsTaxiService Posted April 6 Author Posted April 6 Congrats Lady Bulls! Glad to see the barn sold out and rocking 🤘… they should give the men’s/women’s NIT champs and automatic bid in the big dance the following season Quote

If you bought them on the phone from the Athletic office, you'd only play $10 each. And parking is free! On 4/6/2025 at 9:37 AM, AlCowlingsTaxiService said: Congrats Lady Bulls! I'm holding my breath to see what happens to this team. Does coach Becky Burke leave for a power conference, like Nate Oats did? How many players get poached? Quote

And parking is free! Thanks. I’ll remember that. I have gone to a few other UB games (various sports) over the years - and a bunch of shows at the Arts Center. I live less than 4 miles from there so it’s incredibly convenient. I just wish the football games were more exciting. They’ve been pretty dead when I’ve gone, but I did get to see Khalil Mack play live. Quote

Don’t get me wrong, good for UB if this helps their program….but they won the losers bracket. In context, they’re the JV champs. Edited April 7 by Beast Quote

There are only 7 D1 teams with 30 or more wins. And rankings are never that precise anyway. Quote
PromoTheRobot Posted Sunday at 03:15 AM Posted Sunday at 03:15 AM UB women's coach Becky Burke took the women's job at Arizona. Asst coach went to No. Illinois. Bunch of players left in the portal. The price of success as a mid major school. Quote
