I did some Googling and found that grass is not automatically better than turf. Highmark 2 is going to be a big fat depends... depends on the quality of the grass installation and the skills of the groundskeepers. The NFL fields with the two highest injury rates are grass, will Highmark 2 be better than that? chart source: https://cronkitenews.azpbs.org/2024/09/05/nfl-field-surface-dilemma-concern-2024-season/ I see the mean average range at the bottom is in the 4s... any idea what the unit of measure is? JakeFrommStateFarm Posted Saturday at 02:35 PM Posted Saturday at 02:35 PM How will they keep snow off the grass ? Will they cover the grass before a snow storm or will they just remove the snow from uncovered grass ? Quote
richNjoisy Posted Saturday at 02:54 PM Posted Saturday at 02:54 PM Well, Jake, there's anumber of things to consider in your snow question. 1.) The NFL plays in snow all the time. So, it's okay to have snow on the field 2.) I believe the field is heated, that will melt most snow but I am sure your are talking about big snow events? 3.) The field can (and I expect will at times) be covered but it has to be a breathable material so it doesn't kill the grass. I assume that's what they would use 4.) The field has to be painted at some point (Bills Logo, yard lines, and other markings. That will have to be done at some point so the field can't be covered during that time. They will need good weather forecasts. Hopefully, not all of NWS will be laid off by this time. No LOL. 5.) Blowing and drifting will be minimal which helps with snow removal. Also, the field's exposure to falling snow will be greatly impacted by the stadium's side and canopy coverage. 1 Quote
Charles Romes Posted Saturday at 03:13 PM Posted Saturday at 03:13 PM Modern stadiums employ a combination of technologies to achieve this dual functionality: Under-Soil Heating Systems: These systems circulate warm water or air through pipes beneath the turf, maintaining optimal root-zone temperatures to encourage grass growth and prevent snow accumulation. For instance, REHAU’s turf conditioning systems keep natural grass roots at optimal temperatures to extend the growing season. LED Grow Lighting: Advanced LED grow lights provide the necessary light spectrum for photosynthesis, promoting healthy grass growth even in low-light conditions. Companies like SGL offer energy-efficient LED grow lighting units that allow grounds staff to adjust light and heat radiation according to the grass’s needs. 🏟️ Real-World Applications Allianz Field (MLS) (Minnesota): Utilizes a combination of underground heating and grow lights to keep its playing surface warm, growing, and free of snow for most of the year. Lower.com Field (Ohio): Employs similar technologies to ensure a playable surface during winter conditions. 1 Quote
noacls Posted Saturday at 03:30 PM Posted Saturday at 03:30 PM I predict a bloated overpriced disappointment, because you know, Buffalo. Also a place with another curse because of the stolen money from the indigenous people that Hochul seized. 🤣 1 Quote

I made a better screenshot. It says "Injuries per game." But I don't know to interpret that..... 4 to 5 turf injuries per game seems awfully high. I suppose it could be right. 1 Quote

I’ll go to different cities to see Bills games, but that’s generally about the game day environment. I’d be happy to just take a tour of the Vikings stadium. Minneapolis is a sneaky nice city, too. EDIT: I did see a Bills game in the dome in Minneapolis. The old dome. The Bills lost to the Redskins in the SB. I’m glad they tore that place down. . I was there too. Worst drive home. Giants fans at every rest stop. Quote
