You mean 1915? In terms of the Lusitania sinking?

I think the London part of your story may have some legend within it if it is pre the Lusitania. The King/Queen's Speech on Xmas Day only began in the 1930s. The only Queen to ever deliver the message was Queen Elizabeth II and she didn't take the throne until 1953.

Don't rain on his parade

According to the House of Lords There have been five years since 1900 when there was no King's/Queen's Speech. These were 1915, 1925, 1949, 2011 and 2018

That is a different thing. That is the Most Gracious Speech to open the Parliamentary session. That does not take place at Christmas, and takes place in the House of Lords. It is where the Monarch sets out his or her Government's legislative priorities for the following year.

The Royal Christmas Address (to give it the full title) began in 1932.

I don't usually share personal information on the Internet and I wish I hadn't done that here.  We were riding out a midwestern thunderstorm with tornado warnings in the basement and I had a few glasses of wine to pass the time. Of course, I meant 1915. I don't even know if the story about the Lusitania is true, but my mother's aunts told it all the time. I did look up the records and they made the crossing in August, 2015 on the St. Paul.  And the story about the Queen's speech is my mother's and she was born in Rochester in 1947 so that part checks out.

Back to football. I hope the Chiefs play yearly on Christmas. Them losing to the Raiders two years ago was by far the best gift I got that year.

Ah sorry you meant they stopped to listen to the Queen every year once they were over in America? Got you. I thought you were still talking about the life in London.

They shouldn't lock a team into a/the Christmas slot.  I find it annoying that we have to watch the lions and cowboys every Thanksgiving in soulless venues.

The Chiefs won't be good and interesting forever.

This is a very impractical idea.  Christmas happens so late in the season that the teams will either be on short rest or very long rest.  If KC gets to host each year then they are guaranteeing a rest/travel advantage for themselves in week 16 each year.  I think competitively it is entirely unfair for the Chiefs.  Which means it will likely happen lol.

Thanksgiving happens on a Thursday EVERY YEAR. I don’t love Thursday games, but they are doable. The 25th of December can fall on any day of the week, and this is just one more stupid idea to make more money.

If Goodell had his way, there would be a football game on every day of the week. I remember during Covid the Steelers and Ravens played on Wed afternoon. But that was Covid forcing that which made it a different situation.

The April Fool's Day pranks can happen all month, or even early. This is a hoax by The Athletic.
