don't believe a thing orange pig says.  The opposite is generally true.

from the CBC:

During his speech, Trump also claimed Canada imposes a "250 to 300 per cent tariff on many of our dairy products. They do the first can of milk, the first carton of milk at a very low price but after that it gets bad."

"Take a look at what happens down the road when you look a little bit, it's not a pretty picture," Trump added. "And it's not fair. It's not fair to our farmers, it's not fair to our country."

His claim is not entirely true. Those high tariffs on U.S. dairy only apply if exports exceed set quotas. Below the quotas, the U.S. dairy products enter tariff-free because of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

US imports have never exceeded the quota so ZERO tariffs have been paid by US farmers on dairy products!!!

Like the USA - the land of the dairy farm subsidy - has any moral standing to whine.

Current justification

  • If most people disagree with it, I like it more
  • We have to try something
  • Biden was awful
  • It could work, you don't know
  • You should have known better (Tariffs, being in the market, etc)

I'm curious, do any of you actually think this is a good idea and will work? If it does, what does "working" look like to you? Is it elevated prices with increases manufacturing? Prices coming down eventually? Trade deficits being more equalized <= what does that mean for the average consumer?  Does this have any end game? Do we just live in this state or do we revaluate, if so, how soon?

I'm a bit tired hearing more jobs. The goal can't be as wide as a house or it will never be hit. Does this plan have any "plan" from your perspective or from the White Houses that is a little more specific on what success looks like?

Trump has a plan. It'll either be successful or not. I have more confidence in Trump's plan than Kamala's (whatever she imagined she was going to do).

We can speculate as to whether it will work, and we can panic over the stock market, and we can complain about the price of eggs, but none of that changes anything. It either will or it won't. And if it does we won't be arguing about the metrics. Likewise if it doesn't.

If you didn't vote for him then you can't expect him to do things you would want.

Trump is taking aim at the global financial system, so we'll see how much success he has in changing that system.

Here are the two certainties regarding the tariffs:

1. If the tariffs don't work then it Trump's fault.

2. If the tariffs work then they didn't work and its still Trump's fault.

This is precisely why we have Trump 47 on steroids.

He's executing his promises with zero fuk.cs given.

Are you as passionate that it will work as the people who think it won’t? It sounds like you’re more in the “we have to try” camp.

His promises suck. Tariffs are proven over and over to not work.

You like them because you’re a blind contrarian.

The people who think it won't work are those who are worried that their party won't be returned to power.

I think Trump's going for a financial reset of a much larger magnitude than anything we've seen in our lifetimes.

I'm happy to see it play out.

He'll either end up on Mt. Rushmore for it or not. There's that much at stake.

"Predicting" what will happen short-term is a rather fruitless task, but Lefties are welcome to continue doing that.

I don’t want a financial reset. We were just fine where we were.

Serious question. Do you not think having the infrastructure to make everything in America being in place BEFORE crushing the entire countries 401ks would have been more prudent?

Like I mentioned in another thread, I’m “down” over a quarter million in my 401ks and brokerage accounts. But I’m not worried as it’s all unrealized, hence the quotes.

But two points: 1) people who had planned to retire this year are potentially ***** hard, and 2) I’m lucky to be in this position where $280k of unrealized gains went away over two days and it didn’t impact me.  His base, made up by a good chunk of lower class, were promised lower prices, starting on day one (I’ll forgive the hyperbole of day one, but I’m sure they “trusted” him just like we’re all being asked to do now.) Yet these folks living paycheck to paycheck are now one fender bender, one appliance failure, one medical emergency away from true financial ruin. Are we saying he doesn’t truly care about his constituents?

All I’m saying is that if he really cared about bringing jobs back to America, he needed to build the infrastructure. Instead, people will go through financial hell for 3-5 years + waiting. But we’re just being asked to “trust” him. Yikes.

11 trillion came off the market in 2 days.  put towards the deficit, the debt would now be $24 trillion.  1/3 of the debt was lost in the market due to trump.  BRAV-f'in-O.

Tariffs hit Wednesday at 4pm. China doesn’t even retaliate until Friday early. Market closes Friday at 4pm. Poll comes out Saturday morning. Not thinking it’s taking in all that much from this week, but who am I to judge.

If those things weren’t happening they have zero reason to complain - just win back Congress and the WH and roll it all back.

But they know…..much like how Rs knew Obamacare was going to change things but for the worse.  Still waiting on my $2500 in savings.

And that explains their freak out.

People are mad because they’re worried “it will work” and they don’t want all the glory going to Trump.

If that wasn’t true they would have zero reasons to complain.

These actions will cost MAGA the house, senate, and presidency. What you should be asking yourself is despite knowing that, why do liberals still care so much about what’s happening? Why wouldn’t they just let it crash and burn? Maybe it’s because we want to make sure something is even left.
