Liberation Day - friend or foe

  1. 1. Do you support Trump's massive Liberation Day tax hike on middle and lower classes?

    • Yes. It's sweet. Tariffs are awesome and "they" (whomever that is), not hardworking Americans, will pay them.

    • No. I am against self-inflicted economic harm and exorbitant new taxes not he working class.

According to a report released by Fair Tax Mark in 2019, Amazon is the best actor of tax avoidance, having paid a 12% effective tax rate between 2010 and 2018, in contrast with 35% corporate tax rate in the US during the same period... How about Musk ? ... How about Trump, when will he release his taxes ? ... He promised that back in 2016

Enjoy Liberation from America day.

Americans about age 50 and up have benefited from the policies that have led us to our budget deficits today. They/we have voted for politicians who gave us unpaid for tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, we have spent 20 years in war sinking money into the sand, we have given expanded health benefits to seniors and the poor. Both parties are at fault. Our kids are now saddled with a huge deficit as the 50 plus age group says - “not my problem”. That is just wrong.

Im all for a logical approach to reducing the deficit. But the Trump tariff tax just doesn’t seem logical. They don’t know what they are doing. There is no consistent explanation for the tariffs. The official white house fact sheet on the tariffs only references Canada and Mexico because of fentanyl smuggling and illegal immigration. So is it about that, or manufacturing, or reducing the deficit? No one can explain the need for it. No real economists support it. Businesses are in chaos. They can’t plan for the future. Doing something just because it’s different is a real dumb idea. That sounds like why people do drugs the first time. Well, we are about to feel the joy of being liberated by an idiot so this too will be interesting. Who cares about the economy. America is about to get what they voted for. Sometimes you have to taste it to decide if you really like it.

If it’s really about the deficit, let’s tax the rich and corporations like they should be. I’d also be for capping social security for what you paid into the system. As a general principle, age 50 and older should be shouldering the burden and reduce taxes on young Americans when they are poor.

How much can we put you down for, Andy?

Use to be, and I know today is a totally different world that depends on nothing but the best of every thing that they can get free or other wise or feel they are entitled to as a American, but that being said .

Use to be that most rational people that used any kind of common sense knew that if they wanted to get something what ever it may be that you would have to (here is a very foreign word in todays vocabulary) sacrifice something else to get what you want, but today instead of sacrifice that word has been replaced in America by the word Entitlement !!!

The US for years has allowed career politicians to run rampant behind the curtain and make deals with what ever country or group that would in some way personally benefit the career politician rather than the US and it's people first and foremost, that and the fact that these other countries have in some way profited by tariffs put on American products or monies given to their politicians or groups from us the tax payers that have helped our US deficit to be uncontrollable now has gone unnoticed by the naive Americans that have voted these career politicians into office again & again .

Now that there is some kind of retribution or someone trying to turn things around by leveling the tariff field and making the others pay as much as the US does that bad word that has been so easily replaced sacrifice has come into view again . Those that have sat back on easy street all this time don't like it and are as usual the first to B**CH the loudest and don't want to give up or Sacrifice anything in any way that could quite possibly (and we don't know) do something different to make it better for the future .

But why not try a different approach, something different from what has been the norm because the deficit proves what has been being done sure as hell hasn't been working !!! But that's okay because as long as your personal portfolio is doing good F**K everybody else and the future Right ?

If you all can sit here & in all honesty say that the way the politics and the way that the US government career politicians have been doing things up to this point that has put this country where it is being owned by China through the borrowing of money on our deficit that is some $32 TRILLION & then think that that is the way this country should still conduct business then I sure as hell don't want any of you running my business !!

That is one of the huge problems of the past, we put career politicians in place that wouldn't know how to successfully run a hot dog stand to run the biggest business in the world known to be The United States of America ! To this point there have been very few in politics that have run it successfully and if you don't believe it just look at the books, if you have more money going out than you have coming in then something is not being done correctly & needs to be changed .

But there is the problem ! It was real easy to get to this point by the deception of the other politicians but righting the ship is going to be a B word and no one especially the entitled or those that have benefited all this time from the deceptions are willing in any way to sacrifice anything at all about it, too there in lies the problem !!!

Einstein definition of insanity was - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different out come !!

Think about that in reference to American governing & politics, insanity definitely applies to the line of political thought and actions of the past  !!!!

Yup….insanity is telling everyone that tax cuts pay for themselves    Over and over again….

He did not say this ever.

Well no matter where you look or who you ask about this definition that is what comes up please enlighten me with a link that proves what you are saying so I don't make the same mistake next time in wanting to use this quote I would like to be correct when using it .

But no matter who the person was that actually was the person to say this it fits in the context that I was using it when talking about. our gov't because what they have done in the past 100 years with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 that served as POTUS would have been better of as plumbers instead of being in the highest office in America .

Most all of the past POTUS for sure were no business men and probably wouldn't know how to run a successful hot dog stand and make a profit !!

Except in Cali,  NY, & DC where the tax rates are the highest in the nation  !!

But what really amazes me is the state I live in Tenn.is among one of the lowest tax rates in the nation !!

This state is growing very fast with companies wanting to move here along with people and is growing by leaps and bounds and the states with the highest tax rates people are leaving in droves 🤔 HMM ??????

How do you not understand that this will help the economy!? People will buy American*!!

*after years and years of the needed infrastructure and manufacturing work needed for that happen get done. Ya know, things that should have been in place BEFORE the tariffs so these lower middle class dolts who fell for this conman’s rouse wouldn’t be out of work compounded by higher prices on… well damn near everything they need.

I’d feel bad for them, but they voted for him. Enjoy the next four years.

We could simply do a national VAT instead of tariffs. More efficient, more predictable for businesses, etc.

But that would be a "tax hike" (after all, the name is Value Added Tax).

So let's sneak a new tax in as a tariff and the poorly educated base won't realize it's a tax.

Nice to hear from you lehnerd. Interesting question. Our current debt is about $106,000 for every American citizen. First we need to slow the growth of the debt. Then bend the curve and begin paying it off. What I could afford and what I would want to do are two different answers. Everyone wants someone else to pay the bill. No one likes paying taxes. Are tariffs the way Trump is reducing the debt without saying so. A tax without raising taxes. Who knows. No one trusts him. Maybe Trump will be the austerity president who finally bends the curve on the debt. That would be an achievement but I doubt that he cares about it.

He sure isn't gonna bend the curve on bs.

Remember that great omnibus budget bill that was supposed to come right away? They want to preserve the tax cuts that will be expiring, but there's absolutely no way to balance the books. They'll claim tariffs and DOGE and whatever will fill the gap. Same old sh!t.

First, I want to suggest that you and I would likely agree on a lot of issues, but I feel like I'm coming to these moments of clarity later in life that shape the way I look at all this.  At the same time, I'm acutely aware of all the things I don't know on a macro-geo-political-economic level...and increasingly feel like those who claim they do are mostly full of ****.

I don't mind paying taxes, in fact, I think it's my duty to contribute to the greater good.  To what level is the question, I think. A sensible place to start on what's "fair" (a political marketing phrase if there ever was one) or "reasonable" really starts with a deep dive into whether or not we are anywhere near efficient in the use of the massive volumes of money rolling through the system.  Spoiler alert--I think the American tax payer has been getting bamboozled forever.  I think the tax situation is out of control and while Trump may appear quite brutish and crass in approach--and there surely is an ugliness about it--when you have a system that feeds itself the way ours does, that's probably what's necessary.

I do agree we hear an awful lot about how someone else, the other guy, the rich, isn't doing his part.  I saw the Harris campaign partnering with lots of billionaires and multi-millionaires under the guise of the rich paying more...but not one of them has actually seemed to pony up as is their right as an American citizen.  That's why I wanted to go the direct route and ask you what you would be comfortable contributing now, at this time.

I'm +50,  have lived a good life, contributed to the greater good and feel pretty good about where I am at.  I don't feel any compulsion whatsoever towards shouldering the blame for political decisions made over the decades I've been around, and respectfully reject your insinuation that I owe any great debt beyond what I have offered thus far.  That said--if the government in all it's forms is truly beyond reproach, and the only sensible solution is for me as one of the silver sneaker crowd to pony up another percent or three, I'd be happy to oblige.  For now though, I'm a hard pass.

I've got you marked down for $7,500.

States can’t run deficits ….so tax policy is different than Federal.

The GOP has paid for FEDERAL tax cuts with debt since RR. All these tariffs are to finance the current tax cut package…So… the common man footing the bill for the wealthy.
