Liberation Day - friend or foe

  1. 1. Do you support Trump's massive Liberation Day tax hike on middle and lower classes?

    • Yes. It's sweet. Tariffs are awesome and "they" (whomever that is), not hardworking Americans, will pay them.

    • No. I am against self-inflicted economic harm and exorbitant new taxes not he working class.

Who is excited about Liberation Day??  The largest tax increase--targeted at middle and lower classes, for good measure--in American history is about to land.  All driven by one man, and one MAGA movement.  So where do you stand on this massive, job-killing tax hike?  Time to show the cards!

Update:

First vote is in!  I'm on record as saying Liberation Day is terrible for business, workers, and economic growth.

I think raising taxes to cover the government's entire fiscal year budget and eliminating borrowing is a great idea. I also think the 50% that don't pay any federal income tax should start paying their fair share. Getting 100% of the benefit with 0 costs doesn't seem fair. Make rich people pay more too. And the middle class. Higher corporate and business taxes too.

Because getting American's to pay for the entire federal budget instead of pushing the costs off onto younger workers and future generations through massive federal debts to the tune of 2 to 5 to 7 trillion dollars each year will wake everybody up to the obscene cost of government. Hitting them in the wallet for the entire annual tab might suddenly convince everyone of the idea we need to get control of out of control spending. And free health care, free housing, free food, free education, free everything, is not free.

Use to be, and I know today is a totally different world that depends on nothing but the best of every thing that they can get free or other wise or feel they are entitled to as a American, but that being said .

Use to be that most rational people that used any kind of common sense knew that if they wanted to get something what ever it may be that you would have to (here is a very foreign word in todays vocabulary) sacrifice something else to get what you want, but today instead of sacrifice that word has been replaced in America by the word Entitlement !!!

The US for years has allowed career politicians to run rampant behind the curtain and make deals with what ever country or group that would in some way personally benefit the career politician rather than the US and it's people first and foremost, that and the fact that these other countries have in some way profited by tariffs put on American products or monies given to their politicians or groups from us the tax payers that have helped our US deficit to be uncontrollable now has gone unnoticed by the naive Americans that have voted these career politicians into office again & again .

Now that there is some kind of retribution or someone trying to turn things around by leveling the tariff field and making the others pay as much as the US does that bad word that has been so easily replaced sacrifice has come into view again . Those that have sat back on easy street all this time don't like it and are as usual the first to B**CH the loudest and don't want to give up or Sacrifice anything in any way that could quite possibly (and we don't know) do something different to make it better for the future .

But why not try a different approach, something different from what has been the norm because the deficit proves what has been being done sure as hell hasn't been working !!! But that's okay because as long as your personal portfolio is doing good F**K everybody else and the future Right ?

If you all can sit here & in all honesty say that the way the politics and the way that the US government career politicians have been doing things up to this point that has put this country where it is being owned by China through the borrowing of money on our deficit that is some $32 TRILLION & then think that that is the way this country should still conduct business then I sure as hell don't want any of you running my business !!

That is one of the huge problems of the past, we put career politicians in place that wouldn't know how to successfully run a hot dog stand to run the biggest business in the world known to be The United States of America ! To this point there have been very few in politics that have run it successfully and if you don't believe it just look at the books, if you have more money going out than you have coming in then something is not being done correctly & needs to be changed .

But there is the problem ! It was real easy to get to this point by the deception of the other politicians but righting the ship is going to be a B word and no one especially the entitled or those that have benefited all this time from the deceptions are willing in any way to sacrifice anything at all about it, too there in lies the problem !!!

Einstein definition of insanity was - doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different out come !!

Think about that in reference to American governing & politics, insanity definitely applies to the line of political thought and actions of the past  !!!!

You’re so brainwashed you’re willing to pay more in taxes and shoulder a proportionally greater tax burden because Trump says it’s a good plan.  Unreal.

Let’s start here.  Raise the top marginal tax rate on the rich and raise corporate taxes before imposing a consumption tax on the middle class.  Who’s against it?

Raising taxes on working people.  That’s so MAGA.

If they did do that which wouldn't hurt my feelings those that have been imbedded in the political family known as the US gov't would just blow it on needless crap anyway the way nothing would change, they have been doing the same thing for who knows how long well at least what is it $32+ trillion worth to this point .

So why wasn’t it done during Trump I?  Or during Trump II?  Get it done.

I'm not privy to that information but as I said it wouldn't change anything just give them more cash to burn through and the deficit along with the rest of us as American tax payers would still be paying the same as we are now .

It's like those that think that the price of housing or eggs will go down in the future are very naive once people get more money for anything and others think that they will give back any once there is more to be had it's not happening !!

The only way anything like that will happen is if it is made to be in some kind of way but I don't see that happening . It did happen in 2008 and I could see it happening again the market seems to correct itself when needed ...

It didn’t get done because they’re not going to do it.  The votes are there to raise taxes on the rich all day long.  But MAGA won’t do it, especially now that it’s run by ultra rich.

I believe you’re also talking about price stickiness.  Which was more the problem under Biden.  Trump said he would fix that, but now he’s dealing with increasing inflation too.  I agree that fixing stickiness is lip service - it’s hard to do.  But trump made the promise and now he’s going to make things worse with these stupid tariffs (which, to the extent one believes in stickiness, are a really bad idea).

So question ? If what Trump is saying that other countries have been charging the US higher tariffs on American products imported into other countries and what the US charges them is lower isn't it kind of what's good for the goose is good for the gander ??

Then from what I've heard in his business man way of thinking, (which most other POTUS have been morons when it comes to running a business)  charging a higher tariff on automobiles in hopes to bring more auto manufacturing back to the US even if it is just putting the vehicles together here meaning bringing more jobs here for US citizens that's not a good thing ?

And if it isn't then how would you propose to bring more jobs back to the states that have been lost to countries like China, or Mexico ? Americans expect to get paid a decent wage for their services and the American's price is a higher wage so companies are going to want to move else where for cheap labor and how does America compete ?

Illegal immigration ??? There are enough people here Americans that if you get them off their ass and stop giving them free stuff could work for a living instead of live for entitlements .

Very anxious to here your reply .

Americans about age 50 and up have benefited from the policies that have led us to our budget deficits today. They/we have voted for politicians who gave us unpaid for tax cuts for the wealthy and corporations, we have spent 20 years in war sinking money into the sand, we have given expanded health benefits to seniors and the poor. Both parties are at fault. Our kids are now saddled with a huge deficit as the 50 plus age group says - “not my problem”. That is just wrong.

Im all for a logical approach to reducing the deficit. But the Trump tariff tax just doesn’t seem logical. They don’t know what they are doing. There is no consistent explanation for the tariffs. The official white house fact sheet on the tariffs only references Canada and Mexico because of fentanyl smuggling and illegal immigration. So is it about that, or manufacturing, or reducing the deficit? No one can explain the need for it. No real economists support it. Businesses are in chaos. They can’t plan for the future. Doing something just because it’s different is a real dumb idea. That sounds like why people do drugs the first time. Well, we are about to feel the joy of being liberated by an idiot so this too will be interesting. Who cares about the economy. America is about to get what they voted for. Sometimes you have to taste it to decide if you really like it.

If it’s really about the deficit, let’s tax the rich and corporations like they should be. I’d also be for capping social security for what you paid into the system. As a general principle, age 50 and older should be shouldering the burden and reduce taxes on young Americans when they are poor.
