Bills halt contract negotiations with Cook

So curious how much difference between our offer and what he wants.  Hope we resolve this before the draft.

He's playing hardball and Beane's playing hardball - but in the end, as things stand right now, I don't see him sitting out anything more than Training Camp at most. He wants that money. He's not going to get it based on what he's done and then sitting out and/or playing subpar ball in his contract year.

 

His brother threatened to Hold Out in 2020. He ended up not even missing any of Training Camp.

 

For what his Trade Value is (which is much lower than most posters think it is) - better to have him playing his hardest for us in the Playoffs. Everyone's in their feels. But Beane isn't. Until he starts mouthing off like Diggs or something (where he starts taking shots at teammates and tries to force himself off of the team), there's no reason for him not to be here.

I'd be curious if I could actually get a walk-through with the realtor, or if they'll have an open house. 

 

Price is a little high given some of the comps, so I'm not entirely sure it's a real listing.

He has said NOTHING to indicate this. Quite the opposite actually, see below. He's just working on a new deal.

Actually, J Cook (and team) posted on social media $15M.  Posting $15M is not nothing.  Paying $15M is something most people do not believe Buffalo will be doing - especially in his role as a 2 down back, which it appears is his role in Buffalo.

 

So, I agree with Don above because there is a big desire to get a bag no matter where that is, and since it likely isn't in Buffalo, you do the math.

He is just kissing up  in public to give an appearance, it’s eye wash at this point, he has conducted himself poorly from the get go. Do I want him on the team? That does not indicate that he "wants to be traded". It only indicates he wants to get paid.

The newbie agent is probably feeling all giddy about the coverage of Cook listing his house (he may have leaked it himself).  Just seems like something out of the Diggs handbook of getting yourself out. 

 

The unfortunate thing is it didn't work out poorly for Diggs financially.   I would prefer, if this is the route Cook is taking, that things don't work well for him.  I hope you can understand how Bills fans don't want multiple malcontents to prosper financially by trying to force their way out.

As of now, nobody knows.  Any "speculation" is just that.  Arguing about who is right or wrong, fair or unfair is futile.

I'm just going to sit back and watch.

 

I will say there may be some RB visits for the draft coming in.  That is something to watch for.

Cook will play for Buffalo this year unless there is a trade offer the Bills can't turn down. It seems as though he has one foot out the door so Beane has over a year to find his replacement. 

 

Go trade our first round pick to Vikings for Addison and load the defense up in the 2nd round. That, to me, is what would get a Super Bowl appearance.

It's disappointing to see problems getting Cook a contract.  Cook took a step forward as an exciting RB. 

 

The Bills in 2025, and beyond, would be a better team with Cook on it.  But we know this won't be easy.  I hope you're right and we at least get 2025 with him.

The flip side of that is a RB drafted at pick 63 would get more money that a premium position player would at pick 64 because of the rookie wage scale.  It's just the devaluation of the position.  Paying elite money to only an above average player is bad business.  Especially with RB's.

Man, I love Cook - like we all do.  But I also think w/ a position like RB, it might not be a bad idea to at least try to get great trade value for him now, instead of just watching him leave next year.

 

Davis looked very good last year, and this is supposedly a deep year at RB in the draft.  We'd have a dropoff without Cook, but it wouldn't be as dramatic as other position groups.

Agree.  My point is after the posting none of us know what talks took place and what numbers were offered.

Beane could have offered $13.3M and/or Cook's agent could have come down to $13.5M.

WE don't know.

 

My hope has been a "reasonable" compromise could have been achieved.

I'm beginning to think that will not happen.
