Why interim? I could see if he was taking over mid-season but that is not the case here.

He is a great coach. I think there are requirements to fulfill before hiring a coach permanently.

It’s Stanford, they’re waiting on his academic transcript and SAT scores to arrive.

When I read the news title a few hours ago on ESPN ("Stanford hires Reich as interim coach"), I didn't even bother to click, assuming it was not "Frank Reich", since someone of his statute wouldn't have accepted an interim job. Now you're telling me this was actually Frank Reich?! I am actually shocked.

This. There is a spring transfer portal window from 4/16-4/25 so they had to get him in place before that. They can complete the paperwork later in the spring.

As an aside, one of my favorite college players that never made it in the league was Stanford RB Bryce Love. He alone was worth staying up to watch late-night Pac12 games. It's a shame that injuries derailed his career because he was going to be a good one.

On paper a good choice to stop the bleeding this late in the cycle.

They must of offered a king’s ransom to get a quality coach this quickly.

Love Frank. But he was fired in season from his last two jobs. Bryce Young looked horrendous under him but really started to show something this year. The Colts were a mess under his tenure except for the year they had Luck and Rivers

I hope he does well at Stanford, but lets not pretend this is some crazy coup for a legendary coach

Hoping Luck and Reich can turn the ship around. It's been a rough few years since we had that awesome stretch under Shaw.

College football is better when Stanford is good.

I love what Stanford is about (actually valuing academics and athletics). But it’s kinda of a meh school in the world of college football. Their crowds are blah and I don’t think they are a big travel fanbase.

but it is what ideally college sports should be about. It’s a hard school to recruit. I never thought of Luck as an electric personality but it would be cool to see them get good again.

Yeah, great guy but I’m not sure he is a great coach. I think Stanford got Bill Walsh and they had Harbaugh. This is miles from that. It’s a tough place to build a program.

This makes me so sad.  What an era.  Still cant believe what happened, was my favorite non-Bills football

I agree with your assessment but I did say quality, not legendary

Because.. thats how they do it. This fiscal football year has started (march) with practice. When this season ends is when they will have a HUGE look at a perm solution and will likely be.. Frank Reich.   its just how they do it at the college level. When Football practice has started ALREADY... its never good for the players or the team to even weeks in switch it up to a HC that will most certainly would change the practice system. to late for that.

I am biased, of course, but I am proud of the academic standards applied to the athletes. I taught/graded a bunch of them during that Shaw run and came away even more impressed.

I've been in some awesome crowds there but it takes a truly big game to get it rolling. Otherwise you'll see kids on their laptops in the stadium lol. Doesn't help that a bunch of games happen when school isn't in session.

They have to interview Leslie Frazier first?
