I had higher hopes than 3rd string at two positions.

Sure I get that but it’s clearly obvious what his role will be unless the goal is to let Jones go after June 1st and for him to convert to 1tech the whole time with a rookie

Being on IR with that injured wrist for five games didn’t help his cause. And he was never 100% after he came back, either. He may surprise all of us this year if he can stay healthy. He has the chops to play either technique.

I would be very surprised.

It was the Houston game that gives some of us hope regarding Carter. He was productive; really showed up in his first major opportunity, especially early in the game. Many Bills fans learned his name and number in the 1st quarter of week 5.

Never liked the pick. Felt like he wasn't either a 3 or 1tech. Literally just a guy.

That third-round pick would have been more than enough to move up for Cooper DeJean in the second round. Just sayin'.

I don't want this to sound like I'm writing the kid off or that he has no chance to redeem himself, etc... But McD was clear in this presser that Ogunjobi  was signed as a back up 3-tech to Ed Oliver...Ogunjobi signed a one-year, $8.3 million contract... That is NOT a vet minimum contract... One year or not.

Once again 2 pressers go by with extended conversations about the DT position with no mention of a 3rd round Draft pick from last years Draft.

So... I'm not sure there is any other way to look at it... Dwayne Carter is on notice. This is a DEEP Draft at DT, especially for guys who can rotate in at 3-tech...If the Bills Draft a DT with interior flexibility by the end of the 5th round I don't know if there is a spot left for Carter. Especially once Ogunjobi returns from his suspension. B-)

Although I think it’s really too bad, unless a deal gets done before the draft, I think we’ll be finding Cook’s replacement in this year’s draft.  Being so close to a SB and having the draft capital we have, I just can’t fathom Beane not taking a swing this year especially with the RB class being touted as the second best group after DL (PFF calls it’s one of the best RB classes in a decade:

https://www.pff.com/news/draft-2025-nfl-draft-grading-positions-talent and its exceptional quality appears to be the consensus opinion of the draft analysts).

In regard to what to do with Cook, IMHO it’d be better to trade him for a pick in next year’s draft as opposed to trading him for a pick this year and having to accept pennies on the dollar (the case for drafting Cook’s replacement this year is the same reason we’re going to get less value for him this year).  Or, we trade him for another player at a position of need and free up our options with the draft.  Regardless, we avoid the looming circus of a potential Cook holdout by doing nothing this year.

Some Fans: If xx player is on the team and they don't get an upgrade then it's a complete failure and everyone should be fired!

Beane: We're looking for competition at that position.

Some Fans: OMG, Beane admits failure because he drafted a player at that position previously at some point! How is still employed?!

Did they already negotiate reductions? Or does he mean like clauses about PEDs in their deals that will now trigger?

id imagine at the very least their signing bonuses were not quite as robust but who knows

Beane is unwilling to acknowledge just how dependent we became on Cook last year. Outside of Shakir, he was our most consistent receiver. I'll give Coleman more time but I'm ready to say that Kincaid is just a younger Mike Gesicki who can't stay healthy. Our WR room had no synch with Josh last year and it showed when it mattered most. As to those who think the RB position is no longer relevant I think Christian McCaffrey and Saquon Barkley have put that to rest.

We need at least one playmaker on defense to come out of this offseason. I don't care whether it comes in the draft or FA.

I am convinced we have the QB and coach we need to win it all. With each passing draft I am no longer convinced that Beane has an eye for personnel. Other than Josh I am hard pressed to think of of an impact player on either side of the ball to emerge from the Beane era.

The Rams and Eagles seem to retool effectively on both sides of the ball despite drafting late. We've repeatedly thrown money at the likes of Diggs and Miller. We're an elite team and its time to expect an elite scouting department to keep us competitive.

Thats why they put the pads on though... your draft pedigree matters for maybe one season.  He was injured a bunch last year, didn't play particularly well in his limited snaps either.  But writing is on the wall now so he has to play better.

He can't evaluate DL or WR so far draft wise. Its  my understanding he came from the Cap side of things, not scouting, in Carolina. It seems to look that way.  To say he isn't concerned with WR is BS.  And as for as DT, we drafted a guy last year that McDermott nor Beane talk about. Is this another bust of a pick?

Bro, find me one of those guys and I have no problem paying him. Cook is not in that class. Can't pass block and is a very inconsistent receiver. He has breakaway speed though and his toughness running between the tackles has improved tremendously.

If you mean DeWayne Carter, he registered stats in just 5 games. He may not survive cut down day this year.

Beane as GM is till responsible for the performance of the scouting department.

I expect us to draft an RB pretty high so as to keep the position paid on a rookie scale and spend the savings on defense.

They both spoke from the owners' meeting today.

A few takeaways:

-I remain slightly concerned about Cook potentially holding out without a new deal. Beane says "I think" Cook is a pro, "I'm sure" he'll want to prove his value. We'll see where that goes.

-When he says CBs that can't tackle well aren't considered fits, the 1st round CB that would apply to this year is Maxwell Hairston. But it could be a smokescreen. Tre White was known to have tackling issues coming out of LSU. Elam as well. If they really cared that much, it hasn't shown up in their draft strategy.

-Ogunjobi being labeled as a rotational 3T is not really what I hoped for the money we paid him. This means 1T is still a big need entering the draft and if say Kenneth Grant is still on the board I think they'll take him.

-McDermott talks about Rapp like he's a locked in starter. That leaves Bishop's role in question. He doesn't seem like a natural fit at FS, it would be tough for him to beat out Darrick Forrest I think. We might be looking at another year on the bench or in spot duty if Rapp gets injured, with the plan for him to take over in 2026.

Yea Elam didn’t want to tackle either in College. I think they want someone who is just willing to stick in there and help more than a guy who avoids contact. I didn’t take much from that. Hairston will at least stick his nose in

Cook is a weapon that we can't replace in the draft. he has had over 1000 yards rushing for two seasons in a row as well as having 250yds receiving last year and 430 in 2023. 16TD's last year. We NEED him back and Beane knows it. They are trying to come to terms as Cook is asking for his payday. People that think we use Davis or someone from the draft are high.

I can see us signing Amari again.

I hope to God he doesn’t actually mean what he said about the WR room, and that’s just posturing.

The WR position IS FINE the way it is !!!!! Other needs are WAY more important. If we do draft a WR it will be day 3. I hope to God Beane is telling the truth about the WR room.

I see a TE as a real need.  Knox didn't do anything with his contract.

This is most likely his last season.  No way they take a $17.1M cap hit AND another $2.3M in 2027 by keeping him.

He frees up $10M in cap being cut next spring.

Knox will most likely be a renogotiate / extend candidate in 2026, which can free up similiar money.

It just seems to me that this year was the time to redo his contract.  Similar to Milano doing it.

Knox has $21.5M in new money and $34M in cap hit the next 2 years.

There is still time this year to do it but if doesn't happen I'm not sure he stays next year.

Just my opinion.  I can see a 5th going to a TE if one they like is there.

Cook is kind of in a position where he still needs to prove himself capable of being a 3 down back if he expects the big bucks.  For that reason I think if he holds out would hurt him for his next contract.  But is he smart enough to figure that out?
