Beane's comments on Cook make me think of Gabe Davis. They have a number in mind and they will not exceed it. I also think he doesn't appreciate the way Cook's side has handled all of this. I also believe he expects Cook to play out his deal this year. Still wouldn't surprise me if he was moved.

What does Dewayne Carter do here was my main takeaway

And mine. When they drafted him I thought he could do a bit of 1T but the usage he got last year was exclusively as a 3T. He lsot the backup 3T job to Jefferson and Phillips down the stretch. He know has 6 weeks to prove it before pilled up Larry is ready to go. Otherwise he is gonna be 3rd string again.

Can we trick someone into giving us a 1st for Cook?! 😂 Ray Davis, Ty and a RB in this years drafts class works for me!

😆I wish. I think the best we could honestly hope for would be a second round swap with either the Raiders or Dallas and then one their 4th rounders, maaaaybe their 3rd.

Never liked the pick. Felt like he wasn't either a 3 or 1tech. Literally just a guy.

What was the number for Gabe? $5m a year ?

My thoughts on Cook ( which are worth the same as anyone else’s - not much) are that he plays out the year and moves on ..

Nor me. The below is from my Day 2 Debrief thread from last year's draft:

"In round three the Bills snagged DeWayne Carter, the defensive tackle from Duke. I thought this was something of a reach. He was ranked #137 on my board with a late 4th round grade and the Bills took him at #95. I am not surprised they valued him higher though. He is one of those 5 year guys, slightly older prospect but a good RAS score and high character guy. And the Bills needed to get some long term options into this room. Aside from Ed Oliver all their other defensive tackles are older guys or 1 year rentals. The reason I was a bit lower on him is I think he actually regressed in 2023. Some of that might be on the way Duke used him, they were struggling to outside pressure and tried to use him off the edge in some package but he doesn't really have the body for that or the first step explosion you need. For all his athleticism he is a hustle player rather than a guy who uses that athleticism to win and while his tape was definitely better in 2022 when he was used more conventionally as a 3T the majority of snaps I see his ceiling as a rotational 3 tech who plays behind Ed Oliver. Carter is in theory big enough to play some 1T snaps but I don't like his technique against the run and I think his anchor would need to improve. To me this was something of a need pick. Think everyone knew the Bills were in for a defensive tackle at some point and the run early in the day had left the ice a little thin there and Buffalo simply thought waiting to round 4 and the board might be empty at that spot."

Being on IR with that injured wrist for five games didn’t help his cause. And he was never 100% after he came back, either. He may surprise all of us this year if he can stay healthy. He has the chops to play either technique.

Phenomenal write up bro, and classic Beane pick where he takes a position just to take that position 😞

I would be very surprised.

Not expecting to see a Cook contract done anytime soon......maybe ever here.  It's obvious (and I truly believe rightly so), that Beane and and front office doesn't believe in paying big money to the RB position.  If Cook truly believes he is worth $15 million+, I don't think he is going to see that here.  I think we run him a ton this season and get as much as we can out of him and then it is on to the next.  And I do think that is the right way to do it.  There are other more premium positions to allocate that money to that will have a much bigger impact on the team.  I just don't think you would see a dramatic drop in production by going to Davis or another RB you draft this season.

I'm fine with waiting it all out.

Yeh, but no more 17 td's.  spread them out to the other two rbs too

I see a TE as a real need.  Knox didn't do anything with his contract.

This is most likely his last season.  No way they take a $17.1M cap hit AND another $2.3M in 2027 by keeping him.

He frees up $10M in cap being cut next spring.

Very good point. Just not sure it’s this year. So I agree either late round this year or relatively early next year.

BB on Cb’s who can’t tackle. Think they like Thomas from Florida State and Burke from Ohio State as they are good run defenders. I would think one of those goes to the Bills at 56 or 62.
