They both spoke from the owners' meeting today.

A few takeaways:

-I remain slightly concerned about Cook potentially holding out without a new deal. Beane says "I think" Cook is a pro, "I'm sure" he'll want to prove his value. We'll see where that goes.

-When he says CBs that can't tackle well aren't considered fits, the 1st round CB that would apply to this year is Maxwell Hairston. But it could be a smokescreen. Tre White was known to have tackling issues coming out of LSU. Elam as well. If they really cared that much, it hasn't shown up in their draft strategy.

-Ogunjobi being labeled as a rotational 3T is not really what I hoped for the money we paid him. This means 1T is still a big need entering the draft and if say Kenneth Grant is still on the board I think they'll take him.

-McDermott talks about Rapp like he's a locked in starter. That leaves Bishop's role in question. He doesn't seem like a natural fit at FS, it would be tough for him to beat out Darrick Forrest I think. We might be looking at another year on the bench or in spot duty if Rapp gets injured, with the plan for him to take over in 2026.

Not expecting to see a Cook contract done anytime soon......maybe ever here.  It's obvious (and I truly believe rightly so), that Beane and and front office doesn't believe in paying big money to the RB position.  If Cook truly believes he is worth $15 million+, I don't think he is going to see that here.  I think we run him a ton this season and get as much as we can out of him and then it is on to the next.  And I do think that is the right way to do it.  There are other more premium positions to allocate that money to that will have a much bigger impact on the team.  I just don't think you would see a dramatic drop in production by going to Davis or another RB you draft this season.

I'm fine with waiting it all out.

I hope to God he doesn’t actually mean what he said about the WR room, and that’s just posturing.

He says all that, meanwhile it's been reported we're having every possible type of workout and meeting with Isaiah Bond who's projected as a late 2nd rounder. Laviska Shenault is currently our #5 WR on the depth chart... So yeah I wouldn't take Beane's comments to mean they are done at the position. At least I hope he isn't sincerely resting on last year's laurels to proclaim that the passing offense doesn't need any work. That would be depressing.

Surprised about the comments regarding the safety position.  I would have thought this was a significant need, but their comments suggest otherwise.  If Douglas does not come back then the two biggest needs will be CB and DT (1T).  If the Bills draft another RB with a relatively high draft pick, I think it will be an indication of their view on the prospects of being able re-sign Cook.  I think the draft will look something like CB, DT, DE, OG and RB with the first five picks.

It’s the lying season, fingers crossed 🤞 on that WR stuff,

So we absolutely aren’t extending Cook this off-season…good.

Imo, Jimbo isn’t re-signing with the Bills, they appear to be way to far apart,

Beane's in a funny place because he's talking to multiple groups at the same time.

He's talking to the fans who want news and reassurance.

He's talking to fellow GMs, listening for hints about what the Bills might do in free agency.

He's talking to agents looking for weaknesses they might exploit in negotiations.

I'm not saying he's dishonest.  Still, it's hard to take anything he says this time of the year seriously.

I'm pretty sure the Cooper/Douglas comment is only an option AFTER the draft.

I'm not worrying about what he said about WR and to a lesser extent S.  I don't see that meaning he won't draft one of each.

Beane has to draft players.

DT and CB will be in the 1st/2nd rounds.

The biggest "mystery" is what position will the other 2nd be.

Could very well be BPA on DL/WR

Then with all the other picks they can be from a lot of positions.  WR/DL (whatever not taken with a 2), TE, S, RB, IOL.

Maybe another DT1, if they are worried about Jones.

I don't see anything changing because of his presser.

What does Dewayne Carter do here was my main takeaway

Just going off the words I see here my impression is:

Next off-season Beane will be saying James Cook has Earned the right to test the market.

I believe that Douglas has a floating offer from the Bills on his agents desk with a "expiration date". The week before the draft a vet CB will be brought in.

WR is something we are looking at but not near the top of the draft. He's looking for competition and relying on Keon to take a step forward. If we do select one get ready to hear the phrase "We feel he can help out in Teams (special teams) this year."

We have 1 definitely locked in starter at safety in Rapp. And wouldn't shock me if they still view Hamlin as the second safety. I think a lot of hope needs to come from hoping a fully healthy TC leads to Bishop taking major steps and possibly move Rapp to Hamlin's spot.

1T is a huge need. I think we are moving up for one this year. And it wouldn't surprise me if it's much higher than most people may think.

Whatever happens, this board will be on red alert meltdown mode for weeks.

I'm happy to hear offense isn't going to be a big priority in this draft.  We need to hit on our first 3 round picks on the defensive side.  I'm good with 4th round and beyond being some flyer guys.  Backup QB, G, WR, and RB.  Low risk, possible high reward guys.

Bills picks-2 DT, 2 CB, 1 Edge, WR, LB, S, OL.

DT, CB, Edge/S are first picks imho 🤷🏻‍♂️

I see a TE as a real need.  Knox didn't do anything with his contract.

This is most likely his last season.  No way they take a $17.1M cap hit AND another $2.3M in 2027 by keeping him.

He frees up $10M in cap being cut next spring.

Some Fans: If xx player is on the team and they don't get an upgrade then it's a complete failure and everyone should be fired!

Beane: We're looking for competition at that position.

Some Fans: OMG, Beane admits failure because he drafted a player at that position previously at some point! How is still employed?!
