So you think it’s fair for our best CB (and arguably top 10 in the league) to be getting paid less than Dane Jackson or potentially a 1st or 2nd round CB pick in the draft?  And you want another hole to fill after this season if we don’t have Benford on contract after this season?

I couldn't possibly care less about what's "fair" when building an NFL roster. Benford is a hell of a football player, and I hope he gets all the money in the world. I'm just disappointed that we're the ones that gave it to him when he isn't the difference maker we need. It's the exact same way I felt about the Groot extension.

I would have been fine filling another hole in 2026, because our goal should be trying to win a Super Bowl every year at this stage, even though I don't think that's the way Beane sees it.

Seems the rest of NFL and media think the Bills have effectively kept their young core. And at reasonable cost while addressing the DL with Bosa, and the suspended players. And the draft offers strength at DT and CB while they have 3 players to draft in the first 62. So, to say the Bills will be similar doesn’t align with reality. They have reset this team while getting rid of high cost vets in the backside of their careers. How might they have approached it better ?

They could have added even a single high impact player. if you change Joey Bosa's name to Boey Josa, and judged him based on his performance alone, you'd probably find he hasn't been a meaningful contributor in 4 seasons.

In my mind, Beane has rebuilt our core in 12 months, readying us for another generation of competing with the best. I’m giving him a standing ovation.

Your post has me curious. What did you want done differently - would you have a plan, or just a complaint?

How has he rebuilt the core? Everyone signed to an extension has been here for months and all of the talent added are complimentary pieces, not core pieces. I've detailed my plan dozens of times.

So you want this team “all-in” this season only, at the expense of all future seasons, huh?  How long before everyone in the locker room is pissed off and doesn’t give a crap about this season altogether, because they’ve got management that doesn’t give a crap about them?  How does that play out for you?

LOL, I’m sure everyone who “follows” you is familiar with your plan. To me, you appear to simply be a complainer.

FYI, naysaying is not a plan.

I would say most these guys playing for contracts would have brought it. Ultimately I do like this one with Benford. With the others I think we blocked out upgrading over the long term in two positions that could really transform this defense (DE and MLB) with B players. That, I don't like. Although who knows fully, they can still develop, but in my eyes they will need to develop for those signings to make sense. Bernard strikes me as a guy that would really benefit if we get a space eater at DT, so certainly some paths for those guys to step up.

After that terrible deal the Panthers gave to Jaycee Horn I thought for sure Benford was all but gone. This really is a team friendly deal as if you put Horn's and Benford's stats side by side (The past 3 years)  they are almost identical twins and you can even say benford wasn't thrown at much of last season so his stats are indicative of that.

Again you state your disagreement with BB and his approach. What impact players were you going to add. Open to examples 🤷🏻‍♂️

Pretty sure Benford's advanced metrics in 2024 were ELITE. He's not even getting paid top-10 CB money. This deal is 🤌

(apprehension about injury history is fair, I think, but not about Benford's ability when on the field.)

Most of what he said is nonsense.  We just locked in a top 10 CB (age 24) and a top 20 DE (age 24) for below market value.  Those two contracts will look like highway robbery three years from now.  The common main criticism of Beane is that we lack truly elite difference makers come playoff time.  Beane's like the Pete Rose of the NFL draft.  Lots of singles and doubles but very few home runs.  Benford was pry his best draft pick besides Allen.

However, the one big missed opportunity this off-season was not trading for DK Metcalf imo.  He's the only elite player (imo) at a premium position in his prime that the Bills could've easily obtained (2nd and a 5th?) and signed for $30m.  We obviously weren't getting Garrett or Crosby as they just wanted to stay where they were with fat new contracts.  It worked.  I like the Bosa signing because given his injury concerns it's only a one year deal and it's the best option we had on the free agency market.  Metcalf is a true #1 freakish athletic WR in his prime that can beat you at all levels of the field and would open up the rest of the offense.  I really wish we could've seen Josh throw to someone like him.

PFF has him a the #6 CB in 2024 in both wins above replacement and overall grade (79.3).  He should've made the Pro Bowl but he's not a big name given he was picked in the 6th round.

The word elite gets thrown around way too much... Like.. elite is the best of the best.. Hall of Fame level.. All pro level

There's not 10 elite wide receivers in the NFL... So I think DK is really good I don't think he's ever been in the top five six or seven...

Elite is consistently top five

Well, acording to fans there are currently top-five QBs.

  • Mahomes
  • Allen
  • Jackson
  • Burrow
  • Stafford
  • Goff
  • Daniels
  • Stroud
  • Love
  • Hurts

Only true Hall of famers out of that group are mahomes Allen and Jackson... Matt Stafford is in that group but aging out

Burrow is super streaky and been injury prone... Goff Daniel Stroud love and hurts all fall into the category of really good NFL quarterback

Can take over a game on occasion but not weekly

So it's basically only three or four elite quarterbacks in that group

People here in Cincinnati drop Allen from that list and add Burrow. He's not your average Joe, after all:

Of course they do.. but it's silly.. five straight years of 40 plus touchdowns.. no other quarterback in NFL history even did 4 straight

Joe burrow is a great rhythm passer.. Josh Allen has the durability of Brett favre and the athleticism of a 6'5 John elway

Then you compare their actual hand size and how the ball comes out.. there's not one world where I would take Joe b..  over what Josh Allen has became

It's great that they have belief in their quarterback and he is really good..  he's not Josh Allen

To play devil's advocate, Joe Burrow has elite pre-snap processing skills and is an incredibly accurate passer. He is the most Brady-like of any young QB in the league. This year, he had almost 5,000 yards passing this year with 43 TD passes. Those are elite numbers and he led the league in both of them. Everyone on this board was praying that they didn't sneak in as the seven seed because we were so afraid of playing Burrow. Their offense is elite and they would have made the SB if they had any type of a defense.
