Being a top 3 team in scoring. Does it matter how we do it?

So last year scoring, the Lions, Bill and Ravens were top 3.

Did it feel hard to score for us last year to you guys? We basically did it without a field stretcher. How will it feel to you all if we did it again, TOP 3. Without a true viable field stretcher on the team? How do we continue moving forward with THIS team on offense with the WR/HB/TE combination we have on the team now, or do we still need a EDGE WR to stretch this field this year?

 

Just a question to you folks. This may of been covered in other topics... just wanted to read more direct answers to this topic.

Lots of concern about not having a WR1.  I for one can live without one but it means that Brady has to keep scheming

correctly using what in essence can be 3 number 2s.

 

I have some faith that Brady is still learning and can get more out of the passing game with the WRs, TEs and RBs.

So I know it’s the offseason and we are looking for topics, but what are we doing here? The Bills have had a consistently top 2 offense for the last 5 or 6 years, and now we are trying to find fault with that?

Because, How we did it last year and how we did it in years prior is 100% different.

The purpose of proposing this question was in hopes to get a wide variety of answers to figure out if we all feel or not.. if we should go back to a high flying offense instead of what we did last year?

Allen can score w/ anyone.  We DO NOT need to worry much about offense. I'd be happy w/ a receiver in the early rounds, but it's not dire.

 

Defense, defense, defense.  We lose in the playoffs because or our DEFENSE.  It drives me bananas.

 

We need to focus there - both personnel, and scheme.

It took the best year of Josh’s career and a true MVP performance to have our offense performing that well.

 

Now maybe this is the new Josh Allen and he continues to have a basically perfect season every year, but the history of the NFL says that is not so. The truly elite QB’s over the course of their career fluctuate year to year. 
 

You don’t have to just look at Mahomes (even though he is a great example of how he can basically be a 1 man offense in 2022 and then a struggle immediately). Guys like Peyton, Brady, etc all saw their year to year performances and numbers fluctuate. 
 

So while the 2024 Bills offense was on the whole quite excellent, I still think we saw some chinks in the armor, particularly when Baltimore and Houston stifled our offenses with a neutralized slot threat. 
 

One general rule in the NFL is if you aren’t getting better, you are getting worse. The moral of the story of the 2025 offense shouldn’t be “well we were great last year, no need to make changes.” Just like it shouldn’t have been that in 2024 or 2023 or 2022 or 2021 or 2020. 

 

We should aggressively attack our weaknesses whenever possible. And with Allen being the force multiplier he is, I can’t think of a better way to attack our weaknesses than fill in a glaring need at boundary WR. We have a QB capable of putting up Star Wars numbers in his prime, and while that shouldn’t be the only objective, adding a star or star adjacent WR may be the difference between another 1000 yards of offense and handful of TDs which would directly lead to wins.

I’d much rather Allen throw for 45 TDs and 4800 yards and not have to run outside of the second half in playoff games 

 

id also like to be an even more dynamic matchup problem where there’s not a team we worry about seeing us down because we can use the whole field.

Palmer can do something we haven't had since prime Diggs and that is separate.  We need to add one more guy who can do that and we are good on offense.

It didn’t look very easy prior to the Johnson TD catch vs Denver, nor the 2nd half vs Baltimore, nor most of the game vs KC. The 2nd half vs KC last year. The entire game vs the Bengals the year before. Our limitations show up more the deeper we go.

 

A lot of that in my opinion is teams doing everything possible to make Allen one dimensional in the postseason. He creates so much offense off schedule. But that off schedule stuff is hard to be super consistent on. Even if he does it probably better than anybody who has ever played

Agree, that's why they need to put their money and draft picks in improving the pass rush.

 

1000 more yards. LOL  You could put JaMarr Chase on this offense and he likely would get 1000+ yards, but what will likely mean overall is the yest of the offense will end up with maybe 600 to 800 total yards  less.  In Fantasy, adding Chase adds 1000 yards, but sorry not here!

We just rarely seem to be "clicking on all cylinders." I agree that there is a huge Allen bump in regard to our scoring due to his improvising. Kirk Cousins is a consistently good QB; Jalen Hurts is a SB MVP QB. Do either of those guys get this team to 13 wins? I don't think they do.

What matters is our defense preventing other teams from looking like a Top 3 offense.

The Defense (specifically scoring defense in the playoffs) is our biggest issue IMO

With all the advanced stats, I still have seen nothing that separates on schedule and off schedule plays. I wouldn’t be surprised if we are outside the top 6 or 7 in on schedule plays. Which in my opinion is a lot more indicative of the talent as a whole.
