Just don’t wipe immediately after you make a catch or a tackle. Ask the referee for a Kleenex.

They do keep hankies at the ready. Two if it's a chiefs game.

It keeps kids from emulating a sign meant for gangs.  I coach youth sports and have literally seen kids make this exact gesture when scoring a touchdown.  There is no room for it in sports.

There’s clearly no room for it anywhere! Seems to me that penalizing the team is the wrong solution. I’d suggest a four game suspension without pay…or worse.

Stupid, punk-*ss, tough-guy gesture that is demeaning to women (yes, it's smelling fingers). Make a great play or TD, hand the ball to the ref, and celebrate with your teammates. Bills players don't do it cuz we don't draft players that do stuff like this. A reason I'm very proud to be a Bills fan

Just read through a few pages of the WHITEST commentary lol

Super important stuff here.

Remember when the fake "mooning" TD celebration was loudly denounced? Oh, our precious gladiators mustn't be so crass, I do declare...

The NFL has classified the "nose wipe" celebration, a gesture where a player mimics wiping their nose, as a "violent gesture".

This will now be considered a 15 yard unsportsmanlike conduct penalty.

I always thought this gesture meant something to do with.....ummm....well.......something gross related to male/female private interactions.

Apparently, it's got something to do with gangs.

What say you?

I thought it was what you thought, which is why I always thought it was weird when NFL players did it.

Even if I were 45 years younger, in great shape and had crazy football skills (not true), I still wouldn't be able to play in the NFL with this rule.   I have year around allergies and my nose rarely stops running, especially when I engage in activity.  I can't take tissues onto the football field.  I either wipe or drip.

Is Ceedee Lamb's little upfield pointy thing in jeopardy now? (Appears to be derivative of the banned gesture, but perhaps enough of a creative riff to escape persecution?)

Can a player still pantomime picking his nose with a twisty wrist?

Can a player still pretend to plug his nose with one hand and swipe away odor with the other in classic "pee-yew" fashion?

But what if it's a really cold game and your nose just won't stop running? Is actually wiping your nose still okay?

If the player can produce a note from his mum confirming a runny nose then the official can pick up the flag.

Amazing how underworld activities and the knowledge of such cultures is so prevalent in the NFL.

why are we rooting for these kinds of attitudes and people?

the disconnect between the players and the fans of the NFL is as wide as it has ever been

not sure about this game and this league sometimes

This has been going on since the late 80s - early 90s with the advent of gangster rap along with the glorification of the mafia and crime/heist movies. Quentin Tarantino, Scorsese, Depalma, etc. It’s really nothing new. I am young enough to still be somewhat in touch with current pop culture and the gang banging stuff is prevalent especially in Hip Hop. You never heard the phrase “Rappers want to be athletes and athletes want to be rappers?”

As far as the rule change, I kind of agree. I can’t stand taunting celebrations. I think it’s disrespectful. What happened to good sportsmanship? If the celebrations are in FUN like Stevie Johnson’s “Why so serious?” shirt or Joe Horn pulling out the cellphone then I am all for it. But some of them are flat out disrespectful like the throat cut, Tyreek Hill’s 👋, and standing over a player after a big hit.

They'll probably make an exception similar to the one in baseball when on a cold night game they'll let the pitcher go to his mouth to blow on his hand.  Or some stupid sh*t like that.

You know how weird it is to be advocating the allowance of gang symbols in professional sports?

I’m not advocating for it. I’m arguing against the leagues solution. The penalty should be levied against the PLAYER, not against the TEAM.
